Sounds crazy, right? Ive never been one to dream of a big wedding and if it were up to me id just elope...but my father would kill me and being daddys little (only) girl I want to give him this day. In fact he is the reason we are getting married and so fast. My FI and I have been a couple for 8 years. We live together and have always known we would one day tie the knot but decided to travel the world first. My fathers health has been on a decline and my FI and I decided its time to give him his chance to see me down the isle and soon after a grandbaby (his first) We have no idea how much this is going to cost but we feel like it would be cheaper to go away...honestly bc it would be huge id we had it at home and we realize only a third of the people will come if its a destination wedding. (Sounds awful, I know) Starting from scratch I have questions.. 1. Can it be done in such a short time? 2. Is 10-15k a reasonable budget for at least 30-45 guest? Plus my and his travel drom DC. 3. Recomendations on a location? 4. Extra adice?

Hi Minley16, welcome to the forum and congrats!! :)

We are planning a DW for the same reason that if we had it at home it would be a huge gongshow! To give you an idea, FI cousin's wedding had over 700 ppl at it! No thanks!! lol I think thats a huge reason why a lot of ppl choose to go the DW route, so I don';t think its awful at all.

I think that you still probably have time, but I would really suggest you find a travel agent. The other thing to consider is, are the ppl that you do want there going to be able to afford to come with only 6mths notice? Other than that I think that you may not be able to be overly picky about the exacxt date but I would think that your TA should be able to find you a nice resort around the time you're looking. Also, for buget, 10-15K is very reasonable. We are estimating around 12K right now, and that includes our extra week for our honeymoon, my dress, rings, etc.

Best of luck with planning!!

Liz :)

Hi Kimberly,

I think it is easily done in six months. If you can't do a site visit, spend time on this forum and look at a lot of web sites.

To understand the differences between big resorts and boutique hotels on the Riviera Maya, take a look at this blog post.

Good luck with your search,

Jennifer

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
