Sunset Cruise in Cabo

Hi Ladies! We've decided to book a sunset cruise the day after our wedding and wanted to get your opinions on booking a private vs a non-private tour. We'll have approximately 60 people who will join us and are getting quotes in the $3000-$3300 range for a cruise (light snacks and beverages included). Anyone have any opinions about sharing the boat with others. Also, let me know if you have any recommended vendors you've worked with.

So funny - we had this discussion, too. We ended up deciding not to book the private cruise ... I think the max is 40 and we reserved for 35 ... we just figured we would just take our chances! Also, as silly as it sounds ... we thought it might be a chance for some of our single friends to meet other people in Cabo! (after spending most of the the week with all couples!).

Depending on the boat size - your group will probably take up the majority of it --- IMO since it's not a rehearsal dinner or welcome dinner --- I don't think that it's as important to book the whole thing.

I feel the same, FI is pushing back! Private welcome dinner, private wedding, I think we're good with taking our chances and not booking a private cruise.

Thx!

I had my rehearsal dinner with Sunrider Tours. I was debating between the private and group tour as well. I had 31 people and for a private it would have cost me $1800 and the public tour cost me $1260. Both scenerios, I would have to provide transportation as well. So for a $550 difference, I decided to go with the group tour.

I have my pros and cons to both. Pro's was definately price and the larger boat. The night we went out, the waves were really bad and alot of people were getting seasick that normally don't. I grew up on a boat my whole life and I was getting a bit nausious. The private tour has the smaller boat. If we would have went with the private tour, I think people would have really been sick!!

The cons are that you are with other people who are getting drunk and seasick. Also it is not very private and my guests were all over the place on the boat. I was hoping we would all be in one area but that is impossible. That could be my fault since we did get there late.

Suggestions if you do go with the public tour. Make sure you are there early so you get a seat on the top deck. That is where all the music and dancing and partying was. Also you can all definately get a spot together!!

Claudia from Sunrider tours was great and she did reserve us the salon, which is the inside of the boat where the bar is, but everyone wants to be outside looking at the gorgeous views and the sunset. So no one remained inside the boat.

I definately do not regret taking the public tour and I would go that route agian if I ever did something like this for my guests at another time/place.

The only thing I do regret is not looking into a transportation company to take us all there. When I was in Cabo for my site visit taxi rides were $25 into town. So i assumed you could pack the taxi up with 8 - 10 people and it would be $25. I figured 3 - 4 taxi's, $100 each way. I did contact a tour company and it was more expensive than $200 round trip so I didn't look any further. Well, when I went to get the taxi's it was $6 per person becasue we had over 4 people in a taxi. So I wound up spending $200 each way, double what I was expecting. Needless to say I was not very happy but I should have known better than to think it was like the US and you can pack as many people in the taxi for the same price... So when you are looking at transportation companies, keep in mind taxi's will cost $12 round trip per person. Find a transportation company that will charge you less than $12 per person round trip!!! Hope that helps and good luck with your decision!!

Great info! How many does the top deck sit, would you say?

Our WC uses Pez Gato ... I emailed Sunriders a couple of times and never heard back, so we booked with them. It is open bar and "heavy" appetizers. At first we wanted to do a complete meal - that's why we looked at Sunriders. I know they've gotten really good reviews. However, both the WC and my FI mentioned the possibility of people not wanting to eat a lot on a boat because of a chance of getting sick.

I think the maximum number of guests that the boat we are on is 60 --- so it might be that if you used them, you would end up with the whole boat to yourself even if it is a "public" tour!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
