Outside Photographer Warns me about Riu.

Recommended Posts

HI ladies. FYI::

I contacted Sun Gold Photography to see what their rates are and here is the response to my inquiry.

Hi Marsha and Brian,

Congratulations on your up-coming wedding at RIU Ocho Rios. Marsha we would love to be a part of your special day, but I have to warn you about RIU resorts. They are not too keen on the idea of you having an outside photographer. The last time 3 times we went to RIU Ocho Rios, our clients actually booked us into the hotel. I just want to fore-warn you of any complications.

I am attaching our photography packages and information for you to view, please let us know if we can be of any more assistance.

Sincerely,

Paula

so it appears that even if you pay to bring in n outside vendor photographer, you still may have to fork over money to book your photographer at the hotel as a guest.......but i'm not sure. what do you ladies think about this?

Hmm...I've heard of other resorts not letting outside photographers in so I don't think it's just a RIU thing. If you really want to bring someone in maybe you should just book them a room for one night. It won't be that much more money and then you don't have to stress over whether or not your photographer will be there.

What a pain...sorry you have to deal with this!

Wow, I didn't realize this could be an issue. Luckily, our photog is coming for an extended stay at teh resort with us. I don't know why they couldn't just purchase the day pass like anyone else would have to do and say they are coming to the XXXX wedding (although the equipment obviously makes it clear they are a photog). I guess the resorts will getcha any way they can, huh?

I don't have time to sift through all of the pages, but we discussed this in the Photographer thread under Jamaica forum. We got in writing that it is fine, providing that (1) your photographer IS a guest at the hotel, and (2) you may have to pay a fee to 'break the contract' with Photoshop ($200 I think??)

I'm on my way out the door to work now, but if I have a chance later I'll try to find it for you!

PS- Plus Michael at Photoshop KNOWS the Sungold photographers. I think he'd be more likely to meddle if it's another photographer from Jamaica who he knows to 'look out for.' Have you considered using a US photographer? We're using Robin DePaula and she has a great special right now!

oh, i totally misunderstood. I thought that you only had to pay for lodging if the Photographer was traveling. I thought that if the photographer lived in JA, you would only have to pay $200 to break the contract.

I will most likely use Micheal's services, because I do not want to go through a whole bunch of BS on my wedding day. I'm still planning on bringing a friend of mine from back home to take some pictures. He will be a guest at the hotel.

oh Heidi: I forgot to ask about Robin's special. What is it?

I have alot of local stuff on my site, but wouldn't consider it traditional . . . I just returned home from shooting Raeka's wedding in PV, Mexico - will be posting images from it soon. I did post some images from her TTD that we did the morning after -

I'm no longer offering the special, but can give you a custom quote if you're interested . . . pm me or contact me through my website.

Thanks so much!

Robin

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
