If it helps you any... 40 out of the 115 people I was forced to invite are coming. The people that matter will be there for sure.

Yeah its such a touchy subject. I don't know if I have it in me yet (we'll see as the stress level goes up) that they can't come. I was talking to a friend who got married last year DW. He said that he had no problem telling about 7 people who his parents invited that he or the bride did not know: Your more then welcome to come to the destination but sorry you can't come to the wedding.

Could you do that!

I would tell your mother in law that her guests are more than welcome to come on the trip with her but for the wedding portion you  are unable to afford that budget-wise (though of course you would love to!) and then say you're more than welcome to cover the cost of the guests to be at the wedding itself which is $130 per person (she might not realize how much it is..and change her mind). That way she can still bring her friends on the trip but the cost will not fall on you.

For your friend if she is traveling alone she should really be allowed to bring one guest, as who wants to travel out of the country alone? If she is getting greedy and bringing more friends than one allow her to bring her friend on the trip part if she really wants to (unless you're covering their room and board too) but again budget constraints make it so you're unable to cover the cost of additional guests at the wedding portion and she should understand.

I've been having the same problem. But I'm gladly telling anyone to come because I have a set list for dinner. My travel agent group booking filled up with family and invited friends right away anyway. I have told anyone who has said "oh we are going to plan a boy trip" or "felt jealous because everyone else was booking a holiday and they weren't" I have told them they will not have a space at dinner and may have to stand at the ceremony. So far people have been okay with that. Hope that helps

Wow! My sympathies are with all of you dealing with this drama! :( My fiancé has made it clear from jump that he does not intend to go into debt over this wedding and that the guest list is going to be limited. Additionally, I want people at our wedding that love us and support our relationship, not random people who we don't know. Once we find our venue and finalize costs per head, we will tell each set of parents how many guests they can invite. Fiancé told his mom that their guest list was going to be severely limited, and I'm not sure she is happy about it, but we don't have money to burn. One way of nipping some of this in the bud, at least with parents, is to tell them that each guest above their alloted amount will cost X dollars per head. That really puts things into perspective ! I will also be the only person with access to invitations, so no sneaky invites on the side (though I don't think anyone would do that, it's better to be safe than sorry!).

2 months to go and the drama has FINALLY settled down! Phew!

My fiance got into it with his mom over all of this but they did work things out. She is still bringing 6 friends and family members that we didn't intend to invite but that's as far as it goes. Still a lot of extra money but she is semi happy now so I guess it's worth it in order to keep the peace. She is a very difficult person to deal with. sigh...

My friends and their random friends have decided that they couldn't make the trip so I have NO random people coming and I am so excited about that!

I can't wait to be in Cabo and have a vacation from all this planning and family drama!

Ugh In sorry to those who have to deal with uninvited guests.

I just sent out my STDs and someone whom I didn't invite called me and told me they hadn't received theirs yet. Awkward!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
