worried about low attendance for our wedding

The same happened to us. My friends and family were on board right away as well as our common friends. My fiance's friends were a different story and they're either not coming or not staying at our hotel :(. I felt really bad for him but at the same time I guess it will give my fiancé a good chance to be with his mom (whom he hasn't seen in 3 or 4 years and older sister) they're both staying at our hotel .

Our deadline is on Monday, and as expected most guests are "my family" our friends he acquired through our relationship... He has 3 school friends who have booked and his brother/wife and his parents.... We are still hoping one remaining childhood friend still books (said he would), but thankfully his groomsmen all came through!

Our biggest surprise is the number of friends who we have met in recent years through our kids activities who are all good friends to us- who have booked! Shocked really- since they are all coming with their families so a big expense for them!! We have 6 families from hockey alone! The kids are thrilled!

We are currently at 72 people... We may get to 75-80 by Monday but all the outstanding RSVPs are his... So doubtful.

At least it looks like my reminder postcards are working!!

That's great that so many people are going! We had the same thing happen to us. Most of our newer friends who we didn't think would make the effort to come are coming haha :). Definitely wait until the last minute to count all of your guests! A lot of ours booked the very last day

  • 3 weeks later...

This is one of FI's fears right now but I'm not as worried about it like I was before. We already had 2 people declined which is my brother (budget reasons) and my sister (who is my maid of honor) due to the kids being in school and they don't have an available babysitter that will stay for a few days. I'm not upset because I knew that with DW, this is what happens.

I feel the same way! I feel a little badly about it - but when I start adding up the costs I get a little more comfortable with a smaller crowd. There is a core group of about 20 close friends and family that I KNOW will be there. Anything over that I have no idea what our count will end up to be!

I was worried about a low turn out…but then I figured, the less people who go, the less money I have to pay. So I kind of have been looking at it that way. We are expecting around 30 guests.

I think getting no's comes with the territory of a destination wedding, but I also think we'll all be surprised by who says no and who says yes. FI's aunt isn't coming because she is afraid that mexican drug lords will chop her head off. lol. Everyone has their reasons.

It will be an amazing day for us all regardless!!

So true, the ones you thought 100% would be there, won't be... and then the ones you were iffy on are the ones who do end up coming!  par for the course.  It's not the no's that bug me, it's the ones that ignore you or cause drama surrounding it, that drive me mad. Just say no and move on, sigh!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
