I am also getting married in 2014, probably in August. We are looking at Cancun or Riviera Maya. I was told by my destination wedding advisor that Cancun's beaches are better when compared to Riviera Mayans. I am looking at Beach Palace and Moon Palace but have not yet been able to decide.

Congrats!!!

Hi Liz,

Just wanted to say good luck on your search. We have been to Mexico a few times and we feel the beaches in the Riviera Maya area (Tulum, Akumal, Playa del Carmen) are so much nicer than the Cancun beaches. Bigger beach area, water more of a turquoise blue. They are absolutely gorgeous so you can't go wrong:) Just wanted to throw that out there to give you more options on your search. Happy Planning!!

Hello snorfle1,

Thank you very much for the info!!! I am glad to hear that side by side comparison. It is difficult to plan when you have not been to the location. I am leaning towards Azul Sensatori but I am also doing some research on Grand Velas and Fairmont Riviera Maya.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond :)

I'm a 2014 bride as well. We have chosen the Riviera Maya. It is a gorgeous area, with excellent beaches! I was there for a different DW a few years back and I fell in love with the area. Now it's my turn! The hardest part so far has been choosing the resort. You ladies are right, there are SOOOO many resorts down there. We are in the process of booking 20 rooms (and ceremony date) at the resort we finally chose, hopefully will hear back from our TA tomorrow.  I don't want to say which resort as of yet because I don't want to jinx myself. lol What a relief it will be to have the resort decided on and dates final.

Goodluck to all the ladies still looking for a location/resort. Riviera Maya is a wonderful destination and your guests will love you for choosing this area!

how early did you send out save-the-dates...I haven't been able to book the resort yet due to it being too early yet. I wanted to send out my save the dates so that it gives people enough time to save or make arrangements, to come. Should I wait to send them out till I book the resort...or just do it?
That's a hard one. I sent out an intention email in August 2012 saying this is the plan. STDs as soon as I booked in October and formal invites on Dec 14, 2012. So everyone had full information 15 months to the day in advance. I would get basic info out ASAP. When do they open up reservations for your date? If its soon wait if its a ways away STD

Not till at least april, so i'm just thinking about sending out a STD saying please let me know if your planning on attending cause i want to know about how many people were going to get.  Then i'll send out info about booking as i get it plus i have a website so i'll post it on there and then after i book and confirm the date i'll send the invitations...cause i want that to be a for sure date thing....Plus I can put together an email list for the people I know are going to come or thinking about coming as soon as i hear back from the STD's....to keep everyone in the loop that is attending...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
