Hi everyone and congrats! I am at the very early stages of planning. I am having trouble deciding between the RIU and the GP in Montego Bay. I've read better resort reviews about the GP and the resort looks much more modern and bright. However I have read the wedding team at the GP isn't as helpful as they are at the RIU. Can anyone with experience give me some advice!

We just spoke to our travel agent yesterday and we're going from April 5-12 2014. Wedding date set for April 7, but I haven't spoke to the coordinator there yet.

I'm wondering what the private dinner reception prices are like. I heard it includes a dinner in the a la carte restaurants but it isn't private

I am also looking for more info about the private reception. I heard you have to pay extra $$55 or more per head depending on the menu you choose =( soooo pricey

Hi everyone!

I am new to this site and by the sounds of things I am late getting started in the planning process! I am getting married in November 2014. I tentatively have a date booked but am still torn on the resort. So far it's been good and bad reviews!

Looking at the wedding packages I really like the waves of love in blue or purple .. Both are nice. Anyone go with that package??

I also don't want to go crazy with the budget and it will be expensive if we do the private reception route.. Looks to be that way since we might be having up around 50-60 ppl coming. How far in advance do you have to book a restaurant or private place like the blue lagoon?

So if we go with the private reception do we really pay per napkin and per centrepiece and tablecloth??? Anyone have feedback on this?!

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am confused already and really need to be booking things!!

More questions!!

Has anyone had the beach reception? Or know anything about it? It looks nice but wondering how much it is . It also says up to 25 ppl but it's on the beach in the open .. So is it really capped at 25? And is it buffet or plated?

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.  I will be a month behind you in December.  We are going with the Waves of love package in purple.  Part of me feels that the blue in the flowers gets washed out by the gorgeous blue water. The purple just looks more vibrant and gives a nice contrast.  My colors are going to be purple with hints of green. We are not doing a private reception. We really can't wrap our minds around the fact that we are already paying for an all inclusive.  Why should we spend that much more money when we can get the food included.  We are just going to have everyone meet up after the wedding and have our own party without the additional charges. My biggest reason for choosing this resort is that if it happened to rain on our big day I didn't want to just get married somewhere inside.  The GPLH has the gorgeous Angels Atrium as the backup location. You are still outside but undercover.  I can't answer your other questions but hopefully someone who has already been there can.  Good luck and happy planning!!!

Hey

Does anyone know anything about the Poseidon or the Lotus for a private reception? the Blue Lagoon is booked for my day and I don't know what to choose. I haven't heard anything about any of the other options so I'm not sure what to go with. I don't know yet if we will have over 50 but if we do the other options are either a beach reception or at the spa. Know anything about these two? Any input would be great

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site but I am getting married August 27th 2014 at the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton.

I don't have to much planned yet because the wedding coordinators take an awfully long time to get back to me!

We are having our ceremony at the gazebo OR atrium (thinking atrium may be a nice break from the heat for everyone) at 4pm and our reception is going to be at the Poseidon at 530pm. Right now we are planning to do a non-private reception because she made an exemption for 32 people (normal limit is 30 people for non-private), however we may have an additional person coming now making it 33 so I have been waiting to see if they will still let us do the non-private. Has anyone had experience being over the limit for the non-private and still being allowed to do it?

After this we are thinking of doing the private beach bash from 8-10pm. This way, we will be able to bring our own music and have a private time for our first dance and father-daughter, mother-son dances. Has anyone heard anything about the beach bash? I would love to know opinions. We were thinking about renting a dance floor for the beach bash. Has anyone heard of costs to rent a dance floor on the beach?

Since you are having 50-60 ppl coming to your wedding I believe you are kind of forced to do the private reception (non-private is only for maximum of 30 people apparently) which can range anywhere from $45 a plate to $90 depending on what menu you choose.

We are also thinking of doing the beach bash at the end of the night. What I know, is that you have to pay an extra $65 per person if you are over $25. We have a total of 32 people right now so it would be the set amount of $1800 + $65x5 extra people and it would bring us to $2,125. This isn't to bad in my opinion since we plan on doing a non-private dinner so this is where we can spend the money instead.

The beach bash is more of a cocktail reception with light food (sliders, chips, kebobs etc) and a private open bar it is not plated.

I hope this answers your questions!

Well I'm not getting married in Jamaica but I will be a Grand Palladium Punta Cana bride soon. Someone I know got married at your location last year & it was beautiful as well.

@snorfle 1 I also chose the Waves of love package. We have 50 guests so far. We chose blue but I'm making my own bouquet. I think you are right about the blue flowers... The color seems dull to me or too purple or something. Anyway, I'm doing a shell bouquet.

Congrats all!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
