Dom Rep stomach issues??? Oh boy

Recommended Posts

Ok so I was thinking of having my dest vow renewal in Dom Republic, but the resort I looked at ( Majestic Colonial Punta Cana) was showing many reviews about stomach issues. I kept digging aand it seems like all travellers to Dom Rep run the risk. I do not want my guests getting ill. Has anyone been to Dom Rep or better yet, Majestic Colonial and had any experience with this. I love the swim up room option and the rates are right where I need them to be. I am heart broken right now and my husband pulled up the same thing. Can anyone shed some insight?

Stomach issues are possible at any carribean or Mexico destination. Not sure if its something in the water or what. Either way when travelling to those areas any doctors will recommend shots like twin rx for hep a and b or I think it's ducolax for travellers diarrhea. Obviously if there's a medication developed specifically for it it can be a common thing. My FI brother got married in the DR a couple years ago and none of them had any issues. If it worried you a lot get the mess and don't drink the tap water stick to bottled and don't eat a whole lot of fruit either

Hi Boston Bride, I'm also from the Boston area! I went to the Majestic Elegance (their sister resort) in 2009 with my fiancé and another couple. The resort was awesome but all 4 of us did end up having stomach issues, some worse than others. I didn't drink the water and used bottled water to brush my teeth. Looking back my guess is that the fresh fruit and salads we ate were probably washed off in the water and that's what happened. I continued to have stomach problems for a few weeks after we got home. This is why we excluded the DR from places to chose from for our wedding. We are getting married in Cancun. We have been there twice now and haven't and any issues. If you do decide to do the DR my suggestion is to use probiotics before you go and stay away from anything you think would've been washed in the water. Let me know if you have anymore questions. I also have some pics from the resort. :)

Thank you, Thank you. I would love to pick your brain! I have so many questions. I will get them together and send them to you. Getting ahold of the resort via e-mail, as they like is proving to be harder than I thought.

I was in Mexico in 2010 and stayed at the Dreams Tulum resort, and I have booked my wedding for The Now Larimar in Punta Cana. I have been told the water at these resorts do go through a filteration system, but to be on the safe side, I only drank bottled water and used it to brush my teeth as well. Also, eating probiotic yogurt for a few weeks prior to going should help your stomach as well!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
