Hey everyone!! My fiancé and I have started researching/planning our wedding in early may 2014 :). We want to do something different, give our guests a holiday and keep it affordable all at the same time. So we're torn between a standard Mexico destination wedding or a low key backyard wedding at a vacation house rental inthe Phoenix area. Has anyone planned to been to a destination wedding in Phoenix? There's no forums on here for that area. Ideas or thoughts would be great!

Hi!

I don't have any specific advise for you about Phoenix, but we debated between a destination wedding in Mexico or one in FL (where my family is). Hare are some ideas to weigh the pros and cons of each location:

1. Price flights for the time of year that you are planning your wedding - look at round trip tickets from the airport(s) where most of your guests would be traveling from to both destinations. How do those compare? For our guests, airfare jumped and was much higher for Mexico AFTER we booked the wedding. Still, our friends and family made it a priority to be there for us (and we are so thankful they did!)

2. Price hotels/resorts/vacation rentals in both locations - what priorities do you have in selecting a destination and setting the price? How long do you want to stay/have your guests stay?

3. Would you & your (then) husband travel somewhere else for a honeymoon? Add that cost into the consideration too. (for us, we didn't want to fly to one location to get married, then pack up, hop on another plane and go somewhere else, so we did an all-in-one wedding-moon).

4. Compare all-inclusive vs. a vacation rental - what I found when we were planning our wedding was that the all-inclusive was much easier for our guests than doing a hotel in the US. This came down to the fact that they didn't have to go find restaurants or bars in FL (or AZ in your case), they didn't have to rent a car, and the appeal of Mexico was higher than FL.

I hope those ideas are helpful, best of luck with all of the planning!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
