Upcoming Melia Las Dunas Weddings?

Hi there. My name is Sarah and Im from Ontario. My fiance have finally decided to get married at the Melia Las Dunas in Santa Maria in February 2014. We are currently getting quotes from travel airlines. We received a quote of $1350.00 pp from Air Transat. Can anyone tell me if this is a good price or not? We are leaving from Toronto. What you think of Air Transat?

The biggest question that I have is regarding the FREE wedding part. If we have 17 guests or more the wedding is free. Is the dinner after also free as well or do we have to pay for that?

Also, if we dont end up having 17 people, what is the cost of the wedding?

Im sorry to ask so many questions but Im stressed! lol.

Thanks in advance

Hey I think for February that is a good price... I'd check with Sunwing they seem to have a bit cheaper prices from my experience. If you go on facebook and in the search type Melia Las Dunas Brides there is a whole fb page dedicated to it with tons of photos and information... a lot of french canadians get married though so it helps if you speak french, but there is still a lot of english info as well. Also on the melia website you can find info on the prices and extras that you might want... I think to decorate the ceremony site it costs $100-200 and you can get little extras as well that are all listed. Hope that helps!

I am still trying to decide btw this resort and Laguna Azul in Varadero.

I am not getting married at this resort but I am getting married in Cuba, I think that is a good price, I know that leaving from out East is alway about $300 cheaper than leaving from Alberta... My wedding is in November and I have family travelling from Toronto, and my price for them was just over $1,000 with taxes but November is the start of the season so a little cheaper than February... I think with reading week and the family day long weekend that Feb is one of the most expensive months to travel south!!!

Don't worry, for me picking the resort, booking the travel and waiting to see who books was really stressful, now we are a week away from our due date we have 40 people booked I got my dress and I keep thinking that there is something else I should be doing, but that is why we all choose a DW there really isnt much more we need to do!

Congrats, good luck and don;t worry ask as many questions as you need to thats what this site is all about, and us Cuba brides need to stick together!

Hi there

I got married in Santa Maria Cuba at the Melia las Dunas in November 2012 and I can tell

you that the wedding is absolutely free when you have 17 guests and this includes you and

the groom in the numbers the dinner as well also they do decorate but it is very moderate

so to up grade it starts at $100 up to $150 and I can tell you the gazebo is absolutely gorgeous

and the wedding coordinator Maria Elena is fantastic

Hi Sarah,

We are getting married July 3 2013 and only booked this month we got a group rate of $992.00 with Air Canada vacations.

The cost of the wedding if you do not have 17 guests is $500.00 cuc.  There is a free dinner included basically you get a section of one of the a la carte restuarants, however you can upgrade to a private dinnerand  the cost is around $35-$40 cuc per person

hey ladies

I'm getting married January 2015 and this is the newest thread for Melia Las Dunas I could find! I think my FI and I have agreed that this is the place we are getting married. I have found the people on the "Melia Las Dunas Brides" facebook page to be SOOOOOO helpful with the details, but I am wondering if anyone on here has found anything about the photographer they use or the fees associated with bringing our own?

We are also thinking about this hotel for January 2015 as well or Melia Buenavista we got our quote yesterday and now just need to pick the hotel. What's great about the Melia hotels their wedding coordinator for Canada is in Toronto so it's easy to deal with someone. As for the photographer we have been looking into it and reading reviews and have decided to fly out photographers. We have great ones that we both love their work and they pay their own way there ( so they count as guest of the wedding, no fee)

I think it depends on what is included in your package.  Are you getting an oceanview room?  I've travelled with both air transat and Sunwing.  Personally I prefer air transant, we had a bad experience with sunwing.  We got caught in the ice storm (which wasn't sunwing's fault).  No one told us what was going on and we waited in the lobby for about 8 hours (we were constantly told to just wait in case a bus came).  After that we got put in the basement of the hotel to spend the night which sunwing paid for.  We were told that our bus would come at 7am it came at 10am (we waited outside the hotel for 3 hours).  When we got to the airport they took our flight off the board and I guess cancelled it (even though both air transat and cubana air going to toronto both left on time).  We saw a Sunwing plane and asked the pilot if that was our plane he said that it was supposed to go back to Ottawa EMPTY!  He took pity on us and flew us back to Toronto.  We got on a plane after being at the airport for about 8 hours.  When we e-mailed Sunwing they said it was a "technical error"

Sorry for the rant, but seriously, how do you forget an ENTIRE flight.

Air transat was worth it!  I'm going to spend the extra money to fly with air transat.

Hi Ladies!

I am getting married at Melia Las Dunas on Sat, February 21, 2015! It is very close to your date, Tonia!

I am so glad I found this blog and I just requested to be on the brides facebook page.

I have not done any major planning yet. Only got the price page sent to me and asked Maria to email me photos from the resort photographers. They are okay but I am hoping to get Alfredo that another girl recommended. She got married back in 2009 or 2010. Hopefully he is still around!

Anyways, it would be great if we got this blog started back up again!

Jamie

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
