Thank you all for welcoming me, and for being supportive where my family isn't :-) My family isn't supportive to the marriage due to religious differences, not the fact that I'm doing a destination wedding. I wish that were my only difficulty!

At first we had a different travel agent working with us at Destinationweddings.com, we weren't happy and they assigned a new one, "their best". She's been a whole lot better than the first and I figure if they're available 24/7 for any travel emergencies $50.00 might be worth it? Although, I believe the $50.00 is just a deposit that goes towards your final travel package once you've booked. I could be wrong though.

welcome4.gif to the forum and happy planning!

I started out with destinationweddings.com but decided not to use them after having a few issues with the travel planners. I worked with Amarjit and then with another planner (whose name is escaping me right now.) They were both very nice, but I didn't find as knowledgeable about the resorts and so decided not to go with them. I kept getting incorrect information about resorts from them and was afraid to trust the information they would tell me and would find myself contacting resorts myself to double check the information they were telling me! I decided it was a headache I didn't need.

I'm happy to PM you other details if you need them. They seem to work out for some people, but it just wasn't the case for me. Good luck with your planning though!

OH yes, talking with you I'm sure would be really helpful! I have a ton of questions. Can you private message on here I can't figure out how to yet..or I'll just ask the questions here, not sure if many people would find it interesting or not. But here are my questions:

Which package did you choose?
Has the Wedding Coordinator contacted you yet?
How many people will be at your wedding?
I'm sure there's more..

Thank you so much!!! One thing that happened that I thought was unprofessional, is my fiance contacted the manager and said we were not happy with our current planner, but we would still like to give Destinationweddings.com a chance, so they assigned us Cookie. They never contacted the first planner, so she kept sending me emails. Then 3 days later once she was notified she sent me an email very upset and communicated in a very unprofessional manner. It was difficult to trust someone to our guests and our wedding plans, who since we preferred to communicate primarily through email, that had poor grammar, spelling, unprofessional email etiquette, who was pushing only one resort instead of giving us different options. (I know I don't have the best of all those thing either but at least capitalize your email when communicating to your client!) I specifically had told her I did not want my wedding in Jamaica (love the place but it has significance with another relationship that we don't want to be reminded of on our wedding day) and when her first recommendation didn't work out she suggested Jamaica immediately, instead of looking at other resorts in the area! It was really weird. At that point is when my fiance contacted the manager.

Anyway, this current planner Cookie, is actually super responsive, she'll forward me emails from the resorts so I know what is actually being communicated. So far I'm happy with her. Once this whole ordeal is over I'll give a complete review of destinationweddings.com just so anyone else considering them will know a little bit about what they can expect from the experience.

Who did you end up going through?

I worked with a gal named Amarjit. She was the sweetest person ever! But I have to be honest. We had the worst travel itinerary than any of our other guests. And all our guests booked through destination weddings. By the time it was time to go to Mexico we could not get a direct flight, we flew continental, not our choice. All our guests were booked with different airlines. I think because destination weddings buy bulk air. My son left for Mexico the same day as us and they put him on a completely different airline than Michael and I. Unbelievable. Other than the travel Amarjit was so helpful. And it is a nice website for your friends and family to go to.

And on the flight home, we were laid over in Houston Texas for 5 hours and then flew home to Chicago on a little charter plane. So I was a bit upset over that. Hopefully you will have a better experience.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
