Idaho newbie -To be wed at RIU Palace Mexico

Hello all,

I'm Emily, I'm from Idaho and just got engaged 3 weeks ago. We are getting married March 21st, 2008 at RIU Palace Mexico. We are working with destinationweddings.com, it's been an interesting experience so far. Anyone have any experience with either destinationweddings.com or RIU Palace Mexico as their wedding spot? I'm a little nervous that it's not ideal but we were trying to hurry and trying to obtain a minister on what they're calling the Holy Weekend (Easter and Good Friday) we were just lucky to have secured a minister as of yesterday after over a week of waiting.

We will have less than 15 people there with us, my family is unsupportive but his is very. Due to their work schedule we tried to book the trip around their schedules, thus the being thankful we secured a minister on that weekend since it was one of the only weekends they would be able to come without it being too much of an inconvenience.

I have many questions, and will look for a lot of advice, since I have never been to a destination wedding and don't really know what to expect.

I'm looking forward to being a part of this forum!

Emily

Congratulations on your engagement! March will be spring break timeframe, so traveling will be busy to these popular places. I've heard mixed reviews about destinationweddings.com, in addition they charge $50 fee while other TAs don't. That is just my two cents. lol welcome3.gif to the forum and happy planning!

Welcome to the forum Emily! Have you already signed with DestinationWeddings.com? I haven't heard the best things about them in terms of them actually being actively happy but I'm sure you can find other brides on here with more specific feedback. The location sounds great and I'm sure you're under plenty of stress with this all but trust that in the end, you'll have the day you're dreaming of. Sorry about your family not being as supportive. Hopefully they'll come around.

Well, we're working with Cookie and she's been pretty great so far. I haven't had great luck with a travel agent in town so I thought I'd give destinationweddings.com a shot. Did you have any hiccups? Did all or most of your guests book through them? So far, our price is cheaper than online quotes w/ Expedia, Orbitz, etc... but the quote for our guests based upon a guess of 3 nights the prices are a little more expensive than those travel websites. Thanks for the response!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
