Hey Ladies,

Im having major problems with the hotel/wedding planner at the moment and i only have 9 weeks to go! We only have 15 guests but because everyone booked through different sources we dont have any free private events whatsoever. I have now been told that because we have under 20 guests we arent allowed the buffet, we have to have a plated dinner (so the guests cant choose what they eat) at approx. $80 per head - ridiculous! i wanted a quiet/informal do and its escalating in to something that i didnt want at all. another option is to have a meal in a normal restaurant, but we wont be seated all together? they dont seem to be accomodating at all! I really need help on this one please- any advice?????

I'm sorry to hear your frustrations.  Have you considered taking advantage of the dinner reservations that is included in the ceremony package?  You can have it on the outside area of the brazillian restaurant- best part- it's free!!!! :)

I just received the latest list of approved vendors for 2014 via email from my coordinator. Has anyone used Grupo Gama for decorations, dance floor, or lighting? The prices seem pretty fair and setup/travel fee is only $250. I just want to know how their service and products are before booking! Still waiting to hear back about Zuniga about their prices for 2014.

Hope the planning is going well for everyone!

Thank you for your post Shan0487 - I was advised by my wedding planner that this area came at a cost of a private event!? i will email her again and see what she says, i hope there has been crossed wires as this would be ideal!

You are welcome.  When I got married in 2012 there was no fee involved in it as I know many MP 2012 brides that used that area for their wedding dinner! Hopefully there is miscommunication and if it's not allowed anymore find out what restaraunts you can use the "wedding dinner" at and I'll let you know where is best! :)

Nope, she is definitely trying to charge me for a private event on this terrace - she said;

'if you want to avoid the fees for plated and private  dinner for 20 you need reserve inside the restaurant with the regular guests (no private space).

The Arrecifes restaurant is Buffet style, so you don’t need an special menu. Please let me know'

They are also want to charge me for the plated menu (which is usually for over 50 guests) because i only have 17 guests! im really stuck on this one, i just dont know what to do!

MrsG2B..... so it seems they have taken away from having anything private or semi-private for that matter for the 30ppl included dinner reservation.... So they will prob just put u all together in a reg restaurant.

Please keep me updated on your options and what you came up with.... I too will have small guests list...and was wondering the same thing.

What about a cocktail hr so to speak extended for 2hrs or so...that would be cheaper , and maybe u can have a private space for cocktail hr...  Let me know what she says

I understand charging a fee to use a terrace/garden/set-up.......but charging for food/open bar at an all-inclusive resort is the most ridic thing ever in my opinion.....we are all guest at the resort our food/drinks are included why charge me for hor'd or other food......

Let me know which restaurants she said you can use for FREE.....and what the costs are for  less than 20 guests to use terrace etc....   I still wanna have first dance/speeches/cake even tho I'm having less than 20 ppl....so being in a restaurant is not gonna work for that.

Shan0487- I know you used the comp wedding ceremony...what color is that structure they used? black or brown? also did they have chairs that match the structure when you were going over options?

Thanks!

Aww that stinks! They seem to get more and more strict every year!! :(  I would think if you are going at a non-busy time of the year once you get to the resort and have a meeting with your on site wedding coordinator she will do what she can to make it as private as possible- they are so great and really treat you like royalty once you get there (which it may not seem like when you are emailing them as I'm pretty sure they have black and white answers they are required to give).  But if you do want something private without having to pay an arm and a leg I agree with Becca that the best option would be to have a cocktail hour and then go and do the dinner reservations.  That way you can cut the cake, do the dances and speeches and have private time before dinner, have dinner (for free) and then go to the night club and dance the night away!!! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
