@@beccafries @Dido77 You're right! Many hotels/resorts throughout Cancun/Riviera Maya that weren't charging vendor fees in the past now are (or they've significantly increased the fee). We still always tell our couples who haven't booked a hotel yet to do their best to negotiate BEFORE committing to a resort. If bringing in your own photographer is important to you let them know that. Sometimes it can become a bargaining chip in order to book at the hotel. If you're already booked it doesn't mean all hope is lost but it's definitely harder! It seems as if there are rules and then it goes on a case by case basis (can vary from couple to couple) on how it all unfolds in the end with the resort. Oh...and always get what you discuss with the wedding coordinator in writing :)

Best of luck!

I am a bit late getting started on this website but it has been extremely helpful! I am a Hindu bride getting married on May 11, 2014 weekend and we are having about 5 events planned over 3 days. Would LOVE to get in touch with some other Hindu brides to see how their planning is coming along. Has any brides ever used or planning to use the Hindu buffet menus or the henna artist from the resort?

if u choose a theme reception table in one of collections..will they set that up at the dinner reservation that comes with ceremony?  or do u have to have your reception at a private area like the terraces to have a theme 300.00 table.

Anybody know the answer

Anybody having kids there during school months?  are they missing any days to be there?  Rates are so much higher in June/july and more ppl as well.

Thanks for the reply, @@shan0487! I haven't spoken directly to anyone from MP yet as all communications were done through my TA. I will have to wait until after the contract is signed to get this question answered.. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will agree to it =)

@@Britt also thank you for your reply! Did you have to get the permission in writing? This is important to me so I would love some pointers on how to get this done.

Also, dear brides, I am having a huge issue right now and am in need of some advice. I finally received the wedding contract through my TA, and although most things are pretty straight forward the most important things are not written well at all. For instance, the location of the reception is not indicated, which is something that is very important to us and we do not feel comfortable signing anything and giving a deposit until we know for sure that we are guaranteed the reception location that we have asked for. Also, the contract states that the "wedding date and time may be modified" this seems bizarre to me. Additionally, only the time of 4pm for the ceremony is indicated, but there is no clause about cocktail hour (or the time/duration of the cocktail hour), and no indication of duration/time for the reception. My fiancé who is an attorney and deals with contracts all the time says that we must add some clauses to it before we may sign it. I agree with him 100%, but don't know what is the most efficient way of getting this done. I really just want to do this ASAP and be done with it. I am so frustrated as I was waiting impatiently for this contract to finally sign it and be able to order our STDs and let everyone know of our wedding date!

For anyone that had to make changes or additions to their wedding contract were you successful? and if so, how did you do it? Also, I should add that the contract we've been given is in pdf format, so it's not like we can make changes directly to the document.. we'd have to go back and forth with this I imagine and it may take a while. Please advise =)

Tia!

Hi Tia,

I spoke with the wedding coordinator over email about the extension of the reception, so I just made sure to bring that with me but it was all on my final contract I received 30 days prior to the wedding.

My first contract I signed really only had on it the day and time of our wedding and that we wanted the symbolic ceremony. It said nothing about location (which was important to me as well). I just emailed the wedding coordinator and made sure that she made note of that on my file because I didn't want anyone else to be able to take it from me. She did and we had no troubles. The final contract you receive 30 days out has it all in detail for you. For that one I just kept writing in pen the changes and sending it back until it came back to me perfect, which didn't take long.

Good luck!

Beware MP brides. The resort has just changed their policy and charging $800 for outside vendors no matter what type! I hired an outside photographer and what used to be a day pass of $97 per photographer is now $800!!!!!! Ridiculous and extreme! Outside flower vendors are also $800! This is a huge turnoff. You are basically forced to use all of their vendors who also charge 16% tax plus 15% service fee! My outside photographer, DelSol does not charge ANY fees on top of their rate. They also don't allow you to we resort credits for anything related to wedding except the wedding collections at $3K and up!!!

Ouch. That's a lot. I was thinking about MP and was going to make inquiries. Don't think I will anymore.

Anyone having trouble with the room night benefits? I was under the impression that is was 25 rooms or 75 total room nights to get unlimited events. Now they are saying single people staying in a room, their room nights don't count towards this. We are getting really upset by this because our guests paid alot to come to our wedding and we are paying alot. We feel this is very sneaky MP! Shame!

Update on vendor fees: yesterday Alejandra emailed me and told me that the vendor fee is now $850!?!?!? How the heck can they just keep changing their policy? Anyway my contract states $800 so I will not be paying $850, either one is unfair and ridiculous enough. She did say that some of the affiliated vendors prices include tax and service fee now. So I am a bit happier about that since before she said it did not and I has to pay it. But then again maybe she will feel like changing her mind again next week. However, if you book a night for your photographer to bypass the vendor fee, the room has to be checked out once the photographer leaves so you cannot keep the room. So far, the feeling I get is that these people want to make $$$$$$ and don't have a standard when it comes to policies. All of their vendors also overcharge, you would think rates in Cancun would be lower than NY. If you haven't signed a contract nor made a deposit, please make sure you get everything in writing and feel it is worth it. I will update everyone if my service and experience improves. I hope I don't regret my big day at moon palace! :(

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
