New bride! Planning non-resort wedding :)

Hi there!

I'm a newbie here and am so excited to have a destination wedding!

We originally decided on the Cloisters in Nassau, Bahamas. But a big factor for us was that we didn't want to stay in a resort with tourists, we want to rent a large villa or rent out a small boutique hotel. This was impossible to find in Nassau so we're back to location hunting!

We're considering using the Haiku Mill in Maui but it's also quite pricey. Any suggestions welcome ;)

Excited to 'virtually' meet you all!

Hi SapphireBride,

We think there are a couple of pretty special boutique hotels (non-AI) on the Riviera Maya in Mexico that are worth checking out. I would look at Le Reve near Playa del Carmen, Ana y Jose in Tulum and Al Cielo, south of Playa del Carmen. The Viceroy is cool, hip and elegant, but the rooms are around $600 a night!

We think the friendliness of the locals, the incredible diversity of things to do and the beautiful Caribbean are big reasons to get married on the Riviera Maya. But, we are biased, since we got married here and we live here.

Plus, the locations for TTD photos are endless.

Good luck with your planning,

Jennifer

Hi Sapphire Bride,

Before choosing my non-resort wedding destination in Riviera Maya (Hacienda del Mar, an oceanfront villa in Puerto Aventuras), I had mentally planned a wedding at the Rockhouse Hotel in the cliffs of Negril in Jamaica. It's quite a small boutique hotel and has a few normal rooms that are reasonably priced and private cabanas that are more luxurious with matching higher price tags. I've seen lovely wedding pics from there. Here's one wedding: http://www.stylemepretty.com/2011/06/15/jamaica-wedding-from-david-murray-weddings.

Happy planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
