Literally sick to my stomach...

Recommended Posts

The hotel that we booked back in July (Riu Palace Mexico) just underwent a major renovation which changed the entire style and feel of the decor. It used to be traditional have Mexican decor which we loved and now it's modern while with pink and purple accents. Totally unappealing and not my style.

The bedrooms now have a completely open concept with the jaccuzzi in the middle of the room, open showed into the room, no privacy at all which is going to be a big problem for people coming with teenage children and people staying with friends.

When we booked we were told that we had a choice of either the Brazillian restaurant or the steakhouse for our private reception now we're being told that those restaurants are no longer and option and the only restaurant option is at the Mexican Restaurant (which is not an option for us).

The new reviews on trip advisor are terrible and completely different then the reviews from before the renovations.

I'm thinking about calling my travel/wedding coordinator to see what if any options we have to change the hotel location but not sure if that's possible since we already have 13 rooms book.

I know in the grand scheme of things things will be fine, this is just not what I imagined my wedding to be like.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Oh no, sorry to hear that! I completely understand your reasonings for being upset with the resort renovations. Did they renovate all the bedrooms? Perhaps they have some of the older previous style rooms still available. Also do you have an email or anything that states they would let you use one of the other restaurants because if you have proof of that communication then you can speak with management and hold them to that. Your travel agent may be able to help you with both those concerns so I think its definitely worth talking to them. I'm sure you can find a way around the reservations just talk with teh coordinators and management if necessary and insist they come up with a solution that will work for you! Best wishes!

I would be livid! That's a major change from traditional to modern, I understand because I chose my venue because I did not want modern. Regardless your wedding will be perfect it's about the love you both share. I would deff check in with the travel agent or even see if a sister resort may be available.

I would be very frustrated!! My friend just got married in Puerta Vallarta at a resort that was recently bought out by the Hard Rock. In her case the resort changed for the better, the decor was nicer and newer and the rooms were awesome! I would call your travel agent and see what she says. I know it sucks when you have an idea in your mind of the way things are going to be and it doesn't work out that way. Keep us posted!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
