RSVP deadline ???

What did you put in your RSVP deadline? My reception site doesn't require headcount until 7 days in advance, however, for the welcome dinner, they prefer 5 months out. 

 

Is that kind of rude to put RSVP deadline of 5 months out? Although, our wedding location is 26 hrs flight from hometown, so I'm sure if they want to go, they would/should book the tickets by then.

I don't think that's rude at all. I would think that with a destination so far away that guests should know if they are coming or not 5 mths out. We are getting married in Mexico and opted not to send save the dates, and instead just send out our formal invites with a link to our website 1 year in advance. Our RSVP date is going to be Oct 1/13 for a Jan '14 wedding date... so that's about 3.5 mths. And we were even contemplating making the RSVP date Sept 1!

Thanks Igerry. Yes, I think I will do the RSVP due date 5 months out, otherwise it will be too much stress for me to organise everything in 3 months before the wedding.

My TA requires 3 months out, but for my sanity (and knowing that I have some last-minute bookers in my family), I am telling them to have it all in one month earlier than that. So we are getting married in July, and our RSVPs are for end of March. Whatever your location requires, will be what you should go with. Deadlines and such are totally different when doing a DW, so do not worry about what is usually an acceptable time frame.

I'm checking with our hotel owner to see when is the due date for group booking discount, we will make it 2 weeks before that.

I am not doing rsvp. Most people I will just ask if I am unsure.  I figure if they have not booked by 3 months out they are not going or they will let me know!

My RSVP was in August and my wedding is in May.. Thats 10 months out! In order to recieve the rate my TA acquired I needed people to put a deposit down by August 7th. And it seemed to work 30 guests coming!

We sent out invites in September and our RSVP date is March 1. I wish I had made it for February so I would have a better idea of numbers since I am bringing cloth napkins, chair sashes, etc which require ordering online. The final trip payments are due in March 15 so I figured everyone would know if they are for sure coming by March 1.

I gave my guests a March 1st deadline to RSVP. Here I am on March 4th and a lot of the guests who I know are coming haven't RSVP'd. Why don't they understand how stressful this is

I think it's good to give people a deadline to reduce your stress. Usually when you give people a date they already know if they can come or not.

 

@Melissa. What if you send people a reminder? Like an e-mail or give them a call. Maybe they forgot to RSVP. My FI and I got invited to a wedding and I thought he had RSVP'd because he's closer friends with the groom than I am, but he hadn't. The groom just sent me a text to remind me so I went into their website and did it. I didn't see anything wrong with that, people usually understand that a lot of decisions are based on their response.
