Is it weird/bad idea to skip the wedding cake??

The quotes I've received for a wedding cake have been so high that i'm wondering if anyone would notice if I skipped this. I have never eaten wedding cake at a wedding (I also don't really like cake so that could be why). My FI doesn't eat cake either. What do others think of this? 

Also, any suggestions for alternatives would be appreicated also. Thanks!

Hey there. Well, first, it's YOUR wedding so you can do whatever you want!! 

 

I'm having a tiny cake for the cutting and cupcakes. I've seen plenty of weddings, however, on various wedding blogs where the couple forgoes cake altogether and does something like... pie, or cookies, or just a candy bar. 

 

I say do whatever you want! :) Set your own rules. My maid of honor, is actually a "man of honor" as my best friend is a man... I think with destination weddings especially, it's easier to break the rules as people are expecting things to be more casual anyway.

That's very cool!! Love the Man of Honour! Yes, I agree...if we don't eat cake, why serve it? There will be plenty of cake options available at dessert anyways. Maybe cupcakes would be a nice touch. I still need to think this over a bit more. Thanks for the input.

I say if its not important to you, then skip it! It is so easy to get wrapped up in things you don't really care that much about because everyone else thinks its important. I know from too much personal experience and need to take my own advice! But you could do an alternation - dessert bar, pie, cookies- whatever YOU and your fiance like.

I agree with the others, do what you guys want! Not much about a destination wedding is traditional so you could pretty much get away with anything i think. Is there a special desert that you two share in common that you could serve or provide as a favor instead?

My husband is not a very big cake person and we knew that each of our guests would receive a seperate dessert plate as part of their meal at the reception, but we wanted to keep the tradition of cake cutting, so we purchased a cutting cake, which was MUCH cheaper than a full on bridal cake. It is literally just the top of a large wedding cake. I am very glad we did it because I love the cake cutting pics and its nice to have our cake topper as a keep sake.

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010.       Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners.
