Yes the bridal stores are.  If you use their alterations department do you get some sort of 'insurance'? Not like they could fix it well if they screwed up the first time, but....

I have mine booked at David's Bridal (they start doing them 2 months in advance)... but I know of a private place cheaper so I may go that route!

I was able to book my alteration with David's Bridal in October - I just had to ask. Then again, all I need is a hem.

But they want to charge me $171 for a hem!!! I'm thinking about going to a private place to get a hem, bustle and the crinoline ripped out of the bottom (maybe).  Its pretty hard to screw up a hem and a one point american bustle (although I might look at an Austrian bustle as I have ruching on the back side of my dress already.  Hoping I can get that all done for the same amount!

I called David's Bridal today for something else, but ended up speaking to alterations.. they won't even touch your train, so if you think it's too long you are SOL! They say it's altering the style of the dress. Apparently they don't even touch it when they are hemming. Maybe I am naive, but that shocks me, but oh well.   I think my train is too long, I am going to put my dress back on tomorrow and make a final decision - if I want the train shorter and/or gone I will be using the shop my coworker used.

that is very strange. I think it depends on the alterations deparment. When I went to the bridal centre and I asked whether they would shorten the train of a dress they said no but then I've heard on TV and read on places that it can be done. It's odd that they won't even touch it if you're getting it hemmed. I sure hope they do because otherwise the proportions of the dress are totally off, mine would look like a cathedral train by the time it's hemmed hahaha i'm only 5'1"!

I will try not too look....but I have to admit...it's kind of tough. I know I'm confusing myself by doing this  The dress is beautiful but I may want something with just a touch more glam/sophistication....I don't know I think that's just because of the dresses I have been looking at online loll I guess I just want to be sure that my dress is THEE dress for me. I never shopped around much so those doubts are lurking lol

@TinkerSofi - it's that 'what if' question! I think I do need to put the dress on again to remind myself of how I feel in it.

@calgarybride2015 - That's crazy that they won't touch the train!

What did you envision before even going shopping? Did you ever want more glam or is it only now because you've seen so many online? Did you try any glam ones and what did you think? It was the same thing for me and mermaid dresses. I was kind of on the fence. I tried some on and they looked beautiful. I still love them but at the same time they just weren't me all that much. My dress is me :) and I couldn't picture myself in anything else.

I've never really envisioned my dress lol I never picture what kind of dress I wanted. There was one dress I tried that was glam and I loved it but I didn't want to wear a champagne dress and it didn't come in ivory, but the silhouette was gorgeous. That was really the only one as everything else was lacy chiffon.

In general I'm pretty simple, but for this day I think I would like a little more of a glam touch. I shouldn't have jumped to a decision! Lol its definitely important to have a dress that's you!

@Lia33 ok that makes sense. For me, even though I had never completely envisioned it I knew I wanted a bit of glam, like some beading or something like that. I wanted something that would make me feel a little bit sexy but sweet at the same time and romantic. When I tried on my dress it was all of those things, even though I didn't think I would be able to find them all in one dress. I realized I never really wanted a classic "DW gown" but I hadn't thought I would be able to find anything else. When I liked other dresses and they asked me if I was ready to buy them I always felt unsure, like I wasn't ready to commit to them but for this one I just knew it was the one. At first I did keep wondering "what if", but every time I'm more and more convinced that this dress is perfect for me and I really have no need to keep searching (I know this is actually a psychological phenomenon where you reframe things to be happier with your decision rather than wonder about other possibilities haha, but I'm ok with that ;))

Did you like the other dress better but you just didn't like the fact that it was champagne? Maybe try to find a very similar dress and only try that one on. If you like it more than your dress you might have your answer ;). Also, maybe wait a month or two, if you can, and keep trying yours on. If you still feel like it's not quite right then maybe it isn't!

@A7Xtrish lovely dress! I had tried the same one on but I didn't like it on me. It looks gorgeous on you though ;)
