I have  a question about wedding dress with veil.  Unfortunately I can't post my dress yet - but to give you an idea, it's a mermaid cut, strapless sweetheart neckline, with vertical ruffles all around.  The dress doesn't have any bling on it or anything other than a few appliques.  I won't be wearing a sash.  And there is no crenoline or anything under the skirt to give it volume, so it's not poofy at all.  The fabric is silk taffeta.  So....I know I DEF want to wear a veil - I don't like the idea of a blusher for me, and a chapel length is just way too long and formal for my taste.  I thought I'd want fingertip length, but keep reading that it can cut your porportions off in appearance.  I'm pretty short at only 5'1, and need any bit of help I can get in looking taller, lol so being cut off is not an option for me.  So now, I've been considering waltz-length veils, single layer of tulle.  I think I want to have my hair done in a low ponytail to the side with curts, which I'll then pin up into a "messy bun" for the reception if I get too hot.  Any thoughts on this length of veil with a mermaid gown and look as I've described above?

I did the same thing.  Mine didn't have a long train to begin with but I had it cut down to just a couple inches of sweep along the back.  I was tripping all over the train when I first tried on the dress anyway and it was not a style that would allow for the bustle.  I'm pretty happy with the result now that it's done... Will have pics to share soon, big day is in about 2 weeks!

My dress had a baby train, and the bustle was so tiny it all didnt look right, for a beach wedding, and then wearing it again at an AHR I just had it taken up so its all one length. I like it so much better than with a bustle

Pucca--> Thank you so much for your advice.  I am glad to know I was not the only one out there who had second thoughts.  I think you are absolutely right!  I go for my second fitting tomorrow and am going to do my hair, make up, and put on all of the jewelry so I can get a better idea.  It should fit too!  Congrats on your wedding!  Sounds like you were so happy!  Would love to see the nontraditional dress you chose!

So I'm guessing today you went for your second fitting. Exciting!! Hopefully everything went well! Thank you. I was, and am, very happy! :) This was my wedding dress:

It was quite light and quite comfortable, although piling into the car with the whole skirt was no easy task!

I think trains are fine for a beach wedding. My dress had a train, though not that long. It was bustled for the reception so I didn't have to keep dragging it around in the sand all night (my reception was also on the sand). I'm not sure if I got any sand in my train though because when you're taking photos, you're always moving and repositioning your train. In order to make sure the train wasn't all bunched up in the photos, I'd occasionally fluff it out; so whatever sand may have been there all got shaken out. I certainly don't remember tons of sand falling out of my dress at the end of the night when I took it off. So personally, I think that if you want a train, get/keep a train, and don't worry about the sand. It is, after all, a beach wedding. cheesy.gif

You look amazing! I was leaning toward a more simple style since it is going to be a beach bedding. After seeing your pics I think I am going to go for the ball gown style I have always wanted.

It is currently at the cleaners, but even the cleaner gave me a discount because my dress was "cleaner than most of the dresses she sees - and it would be less work" - it made me laugh because most of the dresses she sees do not have the adventure that my dress had!

Another question: After you did your TTD session, how did you transport your dress back to your resort? Did you put in a plastic bag?

Thanks georgiasl! I actually had a "1st dress" that was simple and very beachy (because that is was I thought I was supposed to get), but after I got home I started to cry because looking at the photos I didn't feel like the dress said "bride" but instead to me it said "pagent contestant". I called the  wedding shop and they said I could come in the next day and pick a different dress as long as they could cancel the order that they had send to the designer. It all worked out and when I tried on MY dress it felt perfect and everyone I was with said my energy changed right away. I stood taller and smiled bigger. That's how I knew it was the dress for me!

Happy dresss shopping!

Here's a photo of my first beachy dress that was returned...

Yes. Just a plastic bag and then I showered it off again once we got back to the resort and let it hang to dry on our balcony.
