Hello Ladies, those of you who live in NY or live within close proximity to NYC, a great place to try where they have designer dresses 50-75% off retail price is RK Bridal. They also have a website, RKBridal.com. You can call ahead of time and confirm whether or not they have the dress(es) you're interested in. Places like wedding boutiques and Kleinfeld are way over priced. RK Bridal is a warehouse and have tons of designer dresses at great prices. Just an FYI for all of you ladies that haven't bought a dress yet. Of course you can go to a place of your choice, just wanted to help in saving you a few bucks!! If a gown is on sale/clearance, that's a totally different story.

Michelle 2 - Glad I could help. I recognized the background from all the times I checked out the Maggie site so it was pretty easy.

I have found my dress online that I absolutely love (and keep going back too) and we will be going in October to try it on and others i'm sure. Any advice on this?
I didn't want to start a new thread just to ask this question.

Thanks ladies!
I tried on dresses there. I wasn't wild about my experience. I felt they were pushy and just wanted me to buy something. Pretty much every dress, the sales person would tell me looked good and I should get it when some clearly did not. Also she didn't have clips and it is really hard to see what a dress looks like on you when you have to hold it up the whole time. Also a lot of the dresses that I really loved from the website, they didn't have in the store for me to try on. Could just be the salesperson I had but I wasn't wowed by them. In terms of sizing, I found the dresses to be about 1 size bigger. I.e. I wear an 8 and the size 10 dresses fit me best.

I had a not-so-great experience with David's Bridal about 5 years ago. I went in to try on a bridesmaid's dress for my best friend's wedding. From the start, I felt the customer service was poor. I was ignored for awhile, then was finally assisted by someone, who didn't seem at all happy to help. After trying on the dress in 2 different sizes, a 4 and a 6, the salesgirl insisted I purchase a size 8, even though the 6 was obviously the best fit and would only require a bit of taking in. I felt like they were trying to squeeze extra money out of me from alterations by making me go with a bigger size. I didn't purchase the dress there, and the last comment the salesgirl made before I left was "if you get it altered anywhere else, we can't be responsible for it!"
I wound up ordering the size 6 from the store where the other bridesmaids had ordered from (to ensure the same lot number for colour consistency). To save money, I went to a seamstress elsewhere, who did an awesome job for a fraction of what David's Bridal was going to charge me.
I'd have to think twice before going back to David's Bridal.

Thanks ladies!
I know some ladies already answered this but thought I would toss in my 2 cents. :)

I went to try on dresses at the store in Fargo. Maybe it's because it's a smaller center, but of the 6 dresses on their website that I really wanted to see, they only had 1 in store, and it was way too small for me to try on. The salesgirl was helpful without being pushy, which was nice, but if I had wanted to order a dress it had to go to an address in the US (was told they would not ship to Canada) and they could not accept it at the store for me to come pick up later.

So basically, call ahead to make sure they have the dress you like available to try on before you go there, and if you want to order, make sure you have an US address to ship it to (unless they were BS-ing me about that, you never know!).

I was not so happy with the David's Bridal experience at all. I drove almost 2hours because they claimed that they have every dress for you to try on. What a joke! I tried on 4 and was very disappointed as they weren't even ones I would have picked but after driving all that time it felt dumb to not try anything on at all.

I didn't even think of that. The only dress that I really liked from the ones I tried on was a 14 and they didn't have a smaller sample available for me to try. The sales lady was actually trying to get me to buy it (the size 14 sample) and telling me all it needed was a little alteration that they could do on site. Yeah right, if I let go of the dress, it fell to my waist. It was clearly way too big and needed a lot of alteration. Now I'm realizing it was totally so I would spend more getting it altered. Well that did not work, bad customer service meant I bought my dress elsewhere.

I love that show! Although now that I purchased my dress I find it hard to watch, there was one dress I saw a couple episodes after buying my dress, that I was like hmmm that could be gorgeous! and yeah didnt watch an episode since...

Anyhow, I was actually dying to go to Kleinfeld's to get my dress with my Mom, but after shopping locally and really not being into the experience I just bought my dress here in Calgary. I did end up going to NY recently but I didnt drop in, again thought I would be too tempted, and I already spent CAD 3K on the first dress - well Mom bought it, but you get what I mean.
