New: Planning Summer 2013 from Calgary

She pretty much asked what we were thinking of wedding-wise, from guest number to wedding colours to getting a feel for what kind of an atmosphere we wanted. They know all the right questions to ask so you don't really have to prepare anything going in. We still haven't heard back from them though, so I can't say that they do things in a timely manner... but again, that may just be because our date is so far away.

Good luck, it is fun just going in and looking at things even if you don't use them. They had some pretty awesome passport invitations when we were there!

Thanks so much for your reply.  Do you mind if I ask what Travel Agent you booked through?  That is a good price for out here.  :)  I know that we're kind of last minute at this point but it would be a good starting place.

The Beach Palace is gorgeous!  I have stayed at the Cancun Palace (a loooong time ago) but remember it being fantastic.  Was price your deciding factor or something else in deciding on your resort?  For our budget my max is about that price for our guests.  We're waiting to hear on what our parents will be able to contribute before nailing down an exact number (which will include dress, invitations and all of the extras) but I'm hoping to have approximately $15000 to work with.

The local question I have right now is about dresses.  Did you find yours here in Calgary?  I know I'll need to work quickly and I do have styles in mind.  Do you know of any local bridal shops where you do not need an appointment?  I'd love to just pop by after work one day.  This is hard without my mom around!  Everything else like invitations and flowers (probably real touch ones) and OOT bags and omg so much else can wait.  I want to secure the location and dress ASAP.  I actually have a zillion other questions too haha but I'll try not to bombard you or anyone else right away!

Thanks again for your help!

Lauren,

So sorry- just saw this! I am using Jolene Bulmer  she works out of her home from Vision 2000 i can give you her contact info if you are interested. We chose Beach Palace solely because of the sky terrace they have for the wedding ceremony. It has a 360 degree view and is just breath taking!! But the Beach Palace also had good reviews for food and service and i liked that the resort looked more modern and less Mexican if you know what i mean.. The resort is also in the center of Cancun (good for the guests to do what they want)

Yes i bought my dress from Ethos on 17th ave. They were really great there. I had a few appointments at other bridal salons and was disappointed, I was horrified by the service and selection at the Bridal Center!  They rushed me and wouldn't allow us to take pictures! To pop by I think most will accept you (expect Bridal center) depending how busy they are.. I suggest calling just before. I am going with Real Touch flowers as well. Check out Bloom Bridal out of Toronto- that's where I ordered mine from. They should be here in Feb! Cant wait.

Sorry i am getting back to you so late I will remember to check this thread now.. any more questions ask away!!!!!!!

Just finished reading the rest of this thread- my response is obviously out of date now lol. Thats what i get for responding so late! Were you able to make it home to go dress shopping with your mom?

I wanted to tell you I could relate to your service at the Bridal Center- I keep asking for no poof dresses and she kept telling me they didnt have any.. like really? In this entire store- I was extremely frustrated with them!

I am currently working on a pre travel package to send out to my guest about a month before we leave.. and i am looking for the pocket size "spanish phrases for dummies" book.. if any of you Calgary brides spot them can you let me know? The Brides from the states get them from Staples or Target for $1, no luck here so far.

^ That's such a cute idea! Could you maybe print one that relates to you guys?
If we end up picking somewhere Spanish-speaking (my ideal!) I may copy that.
Because I can tell you.. those guides are in reality not super helpful. People are really only going to use one or two phrases, and most places people speak enough English to help you get by.

If you had some phrases you wanted to include, I can help you translate if you give me lots of time.

Hi Kristie!

The Beach Palace sounds absolutely gorgeous!  I'm really jealous now haha.  The 360 view sounds incredible.  We'll need lots of pictures when you get back.  :)

I think I can help you with the pretravel package spanish phrases.  I don't actually know where you can buy the books from, but another bride on here had a whole list of them in a welcome book that she posted.  I don't remember the thread now :( but I DID save the phrases because I thought it was such a cute idea.  You could use the phrases by printing out your own books to include.  There were about 3 pages of them which I'll PM to you if you'd like.

I did get home to dress shop with my mom!!  I was able to find the same dress as I tried on here (Essence of Australia D1266) but in Windsor I was actually allowed to touch, take pictures, pick my own choices - soooo much better!  I bought it with my mom there!  It should be in by May, which is when I plan to go back anyway so I can do the alterations then.  It kills me to have to order a 16 because of my giant hips and butt lol, when my bust is a measly 8/10.   But it will be gorgeous once it's on I'm sure.

I'll PM you that stuff and talk to you soon!  Hope you had a good new year.

I am so glad that you got to get out there and found the same dress that is awesome.... I had to order a 16 as well for the exact same reason, and I don't have any hips so don't worry too much about it, those dresses are designed to make brides look like a million dollars!

We are getting close to our deadline and we have 22 people booked with 10 more for sure booking and about 10 after that, that are still on the fence and I was worried that we werent going to have anyone book! I still really havent done much more for the wedding I did however get 6 wish lanterns I love them so I am going to order some more they were cheap (they took a few weeks to get here).

Could you send me that list of Spanish phrases as well I would love to include them in the package that I am making for my guests to send them before we go, I am doing a brochure that will let them know all the little things about Cuba, and then i think that I really want to do luggage tags if I can find ones for a good price, and I thought that it would be fun to include some spanish phrases, I have some on our website but if you have a good list I would love to see it.

Hi Jolene!

I can absolutely send you that list of Spanish phrases.  I am just at work right now (doing what I'm not supposed to be doing as you can tell, haha) and I have them saved on my home computer so if it's ok I will send them tomorrow morning (I'm heading out straight from here today.)  If you can PM me your actual email address I'll be able to deal with the formatting a bit better - I'll send the Word file.

I'm happy you already have so many people booked!  Your wedding is after mine so I feel behind lol!!  That's exciting!  I'll keep my eyes open for a decent priced luggage tag for you.  My save-the-dates were shaped like little luggage tags!

I did finally get my Save-the-Dates in the mail from Simone at DesignKandy on Etsy.  She was soooo amazing to work with!  Great communication and they're beautiful and for 80 of them it was less than $150.  I'll try to attach a picture now - let me know if you can't see them.  They are in the mail today.  :)

Well guess I should get back at it!  I'll send you those phrases soon.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
