Booked my photographer at the wrong Dreams Resort!

Recommended Posts

OMG! I was just about to send the airport tranfer to my photographer. I looked at the travel info and somehow I booked him at Dreams Cancun instead of Dreams Tulum. I booked it through Orbitz to save money (real smart). I just called Orbitz and they said I cannot change the hotel, period. My only option is to cancel the entire reservation (including airfare) and they will give me a $300 refund. The reservation was $1000. I don't know what to do. I don't know if I have any leverage with Dreams since I didn't book directly through them. Does anyone know how much flexibility there is between the two resorts? Do you think I could call the hotel directly and just have them transfer the reservation?

Thanks for reading! :)

I would def. call Dreams and see if they can help. It is worth a shot! In the worst case scenario, I THINK that Dreams Cancun and Dreams Tulum are only about an hour away from eachother..maybe you could pay for your photographer to take a taxi/bus ride there on your wedding day?? IDK??

Good luck, and keep us updated! I hope everything works out.

Eek! I would try calling Dreams and explain what happened. Maybe they will let you switch? That sucks that Oritz would only give you $300 back. Were you able to speak with a Manager when you called Orbitz? Maybe if you call back and explain to a higher level person they can do something. Throw out the bride card, maybe that will help.

that does stink... it can be so confusing with the same hotel name! I would think you could get either the hotel or Orbitz to make the switc for you, if you go high enough within the organization. I know one of the sites similar to Orbitz (I can't remember if it's travelocity or a different one) now advertises that they have customer support to help with issues like this, so maybe you can use that as leverage (their competition is doing it, so they should too)?

Good luck!!

Laura,

Dreams Cancun & Dreams Tulum are 2 hours away. I would suggest to either pay a taxi to have the photographer going from one hotel to the other OR renting a car for the day.

I'm sorry about this, but it's nothing that cannot be fixed.. just pay a little extra for the transportation., you will be fine.

Travelocity is the one with the adds. I actually ran into a big problem & they helped me out. I don't know if it was my fault or there's. I showed up on feb 1st for a return flight & was booked on march 1st. I thought I was going to be out all my money, but I wasn't.

I think calling dreams is a good idea. Tulum is the less expensive one so maybe they will work with you. Especially since you are having your wedding there.

OMG - that's awful! I can't believe Orbitz wouldn't help... I would definitely call the hotel directly, and if that doesn't work, call Orbitz again and ask for a manager directly. That's ridiculous that they offered you only $300! I would also through the bride card out there. I guess worst case the car rental or taxi will work, or maybe you can find someone on here who needs a reservation at the other hotel?

That is some very good advice! A car rental can't be that much.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
