Royal Playa Del Carmen 2014

When you get a wedding package, the max of 35 people is what they will pay for. You can invite as many people as you want but you will pay for the extra people. The resort is pretty easy to work with when it comes to adding guests. We got the free wedding and they even allowed us to credit the semi-private wedding for 20 towards our private wedding. They are willing to help a lot as long as you are willing to ask the questions.

Hi Everyone.

My fiancé and I are getting married in May 2014 as well. Im a newbie to BDW, but I have reviewed so many post that have been so helpful.  I was hoping someone would be able to help with a situation Im having with the resort. We opted for the luxury package and are looking to have about 50-60 people at our wedding. My fiancé and I love music and we want to have a friend DJ our wedding. He will be staying at the resort for 2 nights. We have been going back and forth with our coordinator to see if we can have the vendor waived bc our friend/DJ is staying at the resort and we need to rent Dj speakers from the DJ's resort, but they are telling us that they can only give us a 20% discount off the vendor fee. So we have the vendor fee and the rental of the speakers for $400.

Has anyone been able to waive the vendor fee?

They will not waive the vendor fee. So Sorry. DJ Ivan is the resorts DJ with DJ Doremixx and he was amazing at our wedding! We gave him a very detailed list of what we like and don't like and he rocked it. Our reception was literally like a dance club. But I understand if you want your friend to DJ your wedding. Just know that they are pretty strict when it comes to the vendor fee.

PreferA for your input, but Im really disappointed to hear this if it is the case. You mentioned that the resort is willing to work with you. That's all we are asking for. Our DJ is a guest at our wedding

Agale86 thank you for your input and apologies, but this sounds weird. How can the resort be so helpful for your wedding by crediting your semi-private wedding to private?

I'm getting married next May at the Royal and am wondering what the expectations are with guests for every day besides the wedding day.  We are planning a meet and greet the night before to welcome everyone, but what happens on the other days?  Is it expected for people to hang out together the entire time and for everyone to go to meals together?  I want to spend time with my guests, but I cant imagine a group of 20 or people hanging out together the whole time.  Thanks so much!

Everyone should expect to just enjoy themselves. I just got married at the royal in June and our guests mainly hung out by the pool or beach and relaxed. We did find ourselves hanging out in big groups a lot, playing volleyball, etc. As for meals, don't expect to eat in very large groups because typically the hotel will only make reservations for 8 or less. We did have larger groups eat the Spice, the buffet, a few times and the hotel is more accommodating at other restaurants if it isn't peak hours. Basically, everyone treated it as a vacation. It really is a ton of fun having so many people you love on vacation with you. A bunch of our friends are already trying to plan and "anniversary" trip! The only thing i can say for you is get ready to live on caffeine. All your guests will be super relaxed, but you will probably feel obligated to run around seeing everyone every day. But just enjoy every second!

Hey everyone, thanks for the info so far. For those of you planning for april-june ish, where are you in your planning and what have you been able to discuss with your coordinator? My coordinator is Elsa and beyond choosing the date, wedding package, location and reception options we have yet to really dive into planning. I have gotten a wedding checklist from her (not sure when that needs to be returned??) also I have gotten one catalog with extra products and services, though is not super thorough. What do you guys have locked down so far, just trying to see where  I am at. Also whats the deal with the wedding base-camp exactly? Thanks for all your help, I am absolutely not the best when it comes to this stuff and can be a bit timid and indecisive...lol it sucks Any tips are welcome:)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
