AHR food?

Okay... maybe I am insane. I am trying to figure out food for our AHR. I am making the desserts for the dessert table, but I want to feed people (100+)... it is just at a hall in my hometown... a small, small town. There are two ladies who do catering. One does not have an email address, and the other one is not responding. Very frustrating.

So I started looking at neighboring towns. But I really want to keep costs down. So here is my question...

Has anyone thought of making the food themselves?

Am I nuts for considering this?

Hi Peach-

I think overall anything CAN be done - its whether you want to or not. : )

My only advice is that if you are going the make your own food route - I would delegate this to other people who can help. You can't do everything yourself and you will have more than enough to think about. If you have family/friends that are willing and can take on this task - then go for it!

Good luck!

I don't think your crazy.. but if your AHR is close to the date you return from your DW then I wouldn't do it. You wouldn't want the stress of having to deal with the AHR right after your DW. As pp said gather a group to help.. or have your bridal party help if you have one

Well, it does not look like I will be getting any help with the food, and I really do not want to be cleaning up on my own (no thanks!)... plus I do not live in the town my AHR (so much for the "at home" part), so I guess there goes that plan out the window. I think it is totally doable if you have some help and are around before it... I am back from my DW for about 3 weeks, but I will not be near my AHR location until the day before. So oh well.

Back to the drawing board. I just cannot stomach the idea of this turning into a money pit. :(

Have you tried to call the woman that doesn't have email? Maybe she'll be easy to work with once you get her on the phone. Otherwise is there a neighboring town that isn't too far away that might have catering options? If you are still in their delivery area the cost may not be too bad. Another idea is to find a place that will make the food and you can pick it up. I'm planning my AHR at a local golf club. It's a nice casual place and one of the least expensive options in my area. When my FMIL heard this, her recommendation was for us to have people at our place instead and save money. I personally am not interested in having to do any more work than necessary for our reception. It is still a celebration for us, and I want to enjoy it versus having the stress of cooking, cleaning, and playing host.

Nope and nope.

Grrr. Thanks for the suggestions, ladies.

I got ahold of one of the women, and she would do it, but was completely inflexible, and made up a price off the top of her head. No pricing or options lists or anything. No happy.

However, that may be my only option. I still cannot get ahold of the other lady, though I have heard she has a pricing list and is more flexible... I just wish she were more reachable!

I have been told I will have no help making, serving or cleaning up. Or bringing in from a nearby town. The closest one with options is about 35-40 minutes away. That is quite a few trips in my little car, and I have been unable to find reasonable pricing for delivery.

So. very. frustrating.

I am very sorry to hear you're having so much trouble :( This should be a fun event! We're also planning an AHR, and FI has put his foot down that he is "not paying for another wedding" so it's going to be very budget!

I wish you the best of luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
