I saw some pic on here of your wedding! You looked gorgeous! Congratulations!! :-)

I am really type A and needed to check some of the stuff off my list, and 2. I have a huge professional exam 3 weeks before my wedding, so I really need to be finished with as much as possible by like February.  Also didn't want to be left with the entire expense at once.  So here's what I did:  I have a spreadsheet with my guest list, then whether or not they are likely to show, and whether or not they are likely to bring someone.  I'm basing my welcome bags on that #, which I'm calling "likely to show".  I could definitely be off, but from what I've heard, the # of people you think will come and back out kind of evens out the # you think won't come and do.  It's  gamble but oh well.  I've made 56 bags (we sewed the bags), and I don't have the materials to make more, so I'll have to make that # work.  We're planning on about 100 people.  If it gets bigger than 105 we have a problem.  Haha.  I can't WAIT to get invitations out mid January so I can start getting replies.  A lot of my close friends (ones I already knew were coming) have started asking if they should put down deposits and booking flights.  The answer is an enthusiastic YES!

I'm happy to hear there are others in the same boat as me waiting for people to book! I thought it was only me for a while. On the forum it seems like a lot of brides getting married in May/June/July already have alot of guest booked, at least the deposit.  That worried me for a bit until I realized there were others in my shoes too :-)

I like your idea of guessing but I just have no clue.  It could be 50 it could be 25. I would just hate to buy 50 of each and then have sooo many leftovers. I know I could probably sell them on here or another website but I just don't want to go through that hassle. I'll just wait until it gets a little closer. Soon after invitations go out I'm sure we'll start hearing more who's coming/not coming. However; if I had a huge exam like you did 3 weeks before, I'd want to get them out of the way as well!

Not knowing how many people are actually going to come is driving me bonkers!  We sent out STD out in Sept and are planning to send our invites out mid January. We have a deadline on our RSVP card of 2/15 with a booking deadline of 3/15. All final payments are due in April, 2 months before we leave but I want to know how many people are coming as soon as possible so I can start on the welcome bags. I have started squirriling away money for the bags though since my fiance thinks they're a waste of money. I'm going to pay for them myself so he can't have any say.

We have about 30 people already book and expect probably over 50 when all is said in done. We invited almost 200 people bc my fiance's mother coulnd't keep her list under 50 people herself! Thankfully most of them won't be coming

I've talked (and read on here) a so many brides have brought advil, immodium, etc for their welcome bags and nobody has had any issues with smuggling drugs. If you do a search on these boards you'll read dozens of reviews and threads on OOT bags where brides have brought stuff down in their suitcases. If your worried, you can go to the Wal-mart or Costco in Cancun but I just don't want to deal with that once i get there. I'd rather just bring it all down with me & just enjoy my vacation right when we get to the resort!

Thank you!  This is definitely something I have to read more on.  Our TA warned us about it so I had the impression I could spend my wedding weekend in a Mexican jail.  I will read on!  lol

I know the feeling!  I also feel that 60 is large for a destination wedding.. Now that my list is at 201 guests, I hope the statistics are not accurate.. lol

I was starting to panic a bit last night about the lack of planning and preparation to date.  We just got engaged in November and are planning the wedding for June.

We decided to pass on the STD cards and just send an e-mail.  Most people who know we are getting married know it is a DW.  My Fi is from New Zealand and we are moving from the Chicago area.  People would have to travel regardless, so we decided on a beach on in Mexico.  :)

We are working with a graphic designer for our invites and those will go out in January.

Starting to get lots of great ideas on centerpieces and flowers.

We have the swag/OOT bags figured out.

We are arriving Wednesday, June 12th. We thought about coming Monday or Tuesday instead but we decided we wanted to spend most of our vacation after the wedding rather than the days leading up to it. I think I'll be a little nervous/stressed so I didn't wanna spend too much time there before the wedding. I also am afriaid to get too much sun before the big day as well! What about you?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
