Wedding Dress Prices?

Recommended Posts

I had already bought a dress from David's Bridal that was $350 -- very simple, classic A-line without a train -- and I thought I would be happy. OH, did I ever doubt myself, and I'm glad I did!

I purchased my Sottero and Midley RSM1038 for just shy of $1100.00, and after the wedding in Jamaica itself, I plan to wear it again for my 1st dance at our AHR and then change into the gown I got at David's (which I am having shortened) for the remainder of the party! Add to that the $75 cheapie TTD gown I got off of eBay, and then I'll be all set!

I got a gown for $900 off the rack, with alterations and cleaning being another $250 or so. Then I bought a cheap back-up dress from David's Bridal for $150 just in case something happened during travel or when the hotel steamed it.

I didn't even try on gowns over $1,000 because I didn't want to spend that much on something that I was only going to wear once. I also wasn't looking for anything elaborate but more a classic A-line gown that looks more like a red carpet gown in ivory with beading than a huge wedding gown.

My dress cost 300€, which i think works out about 400 USD? That includes alteration, as the only one they had was European size 46. It's not a wedding dress though, I tried on heaps of expensive wedding dresses, and finally settled on a strapless chiffon purple cocktail dress, I feel much more like me in it!

Almost every dress I've tried on has been between $1000 and $1500, not including tax or alterations. There were a few around the $800 range but they were older stock I think so had been reduced. I think that's basically the price range for the majority of gown designers in my city...I thought about driving across the border to New York or Vermont and probably saving a few hundred but I'd rather just have the convenience of finding something nearby. My budget is $2000.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
