I'M WORRIED NO ONE WILL COME TO MY DESTINATION WEDDING!

Recommended Posts

Your absolutely right! My fiance has said that to me as well. Th most important thing is that we both will be there and will be getting married at the beach, which has been a dream for both of us. Thank you for making me feel better! I'll keep you guys posted and let you know what happens.

My Travel Agent gave me a locked in rate for 90 days, and if I had a total (including us) of 5 rooms booked in that 90 days, it would lock in my rate. Period. The only movement it can make is going down. My TA DID tell me that many people will wait to book until the last minute - it's an unfortunate trend.

I had to put some pressure on some people, namely my parents (my step-dad is a deal finder and wanted to find a better price)... but we ended up getting 8 rooms booked before the 90 days. Now there's still over a year to go, and we're expecting, probably another 8 rooms booked. I'll be happy with 30-40 people. The important folks will be there.

I didn't use a TA but I did lock in a group rate for my guests which is good all the way up to my wedding date, however it's on space available basis.  That means, they may or may not get a room if they wait too long.  Invites will go out next month and my RSVP deadline is January 18th.   I need 8 rooms booked and right now we've got 4 rooms booked as of now, but I've also got people who have RSVP'd on our wedding website but haven't booked their rooms yet. It's still early, but I suspect most folks who are definitely attending will be all booked flight/room before Christmas for sure.  I really cannot stress about the guest list. The important folks are all booked so everyone else is icing on the cake for us. I just hope we don't exceed 30 people!

My wedding is also 7 months away (May 18th) and the only people who have booked aside from the two of us are our parents (airfare not included).  With our group rate contract, prices are locked and the only variable for my guests is airfare.  I know that many havenâ€t booked for this reason, and theyâ€re waiting to see how much airfare will drop before completing their reservations as it may impact how many nights they choose to stay.    I'm not worried yet, I expect to see some booking momentum in the next 3-4 months, but if not I can't and won't worry about the either.

Wow! Your so lucky to have 16 people booked already with your wedding still more than a year out! Ugh, my friends and family will be last minute and it's going to stress me out!

I'm sure that it makes a difference depending on where you are flying to and from, but the prices for our guests to book went down significantly in the last few months before the wedding (like our family flying from Prince George, BC, Canada to Puerto Vallarta Mexico, saved over $300 when they booked in September for our December wedding compared to people that booked further in advance). I think it all just depends on how many rooms are still available at your resort once it starts getting closer to the wedding. For us, our travel agent was trying to get everyone to book way sooner (we had about 4-5 rooms booked by last September) but if we had the choice to do it again, we probably wouldn't have booked so soon. I would've liked to have waited until even 6 months before the wedding (not necessarily 3, even though that saved our guests a lot of money).

Booking with a group makes a difference (which, again, in retrospect, we probably wouldn't have done the group thing, at least not so early) but you never know what could happen with your prices! I am sure the travel agent knows what he/she is talking about, but I just wanted to make the point that we were told our prices were not likely to go down either, and look what happened!

Best of luck! And great job focusing on the positive...you and your future husband are getting the wedding of your dreams and whomever makes the trip with you will help to make it a really special day.

I'm really worried that no one will come, I want to cry :( Maybe I'm just having a moment. it feels good to hear about all the other brides on here who are dealing with the same problem. I too put so much effort in finding the most economical place and hotel and I sent my save the dates a year in advance. I've explained to my family and friends that this is an opportunity for them to go on vacation and see me get married. There hasn't been a wedding in my family in over 15 years and I can't remember the last time anyone went on vacation. I'm crossing my fingers everything works out.

I made it clear to my guests that when they book and put their $150 down, their price gets locked in and it can't go up. That's why it makes no sense to wait till the last min to book... People will come though girl, keep you chin up!
We had a promotion going on that had an "end" date, which made everyone want to book before it was over

I think we are all in the same boat. I was worried and stressing out in the beginning that no one would book. I've had close family members freak out about the price, at this point, the way I see it is, the people who want to be there will be there. I have 20 people that have given a deposit, they have until March to make the final payment. I am expecting people to wait until the last possible minute to see if they can get it for cheaper.

Congrats RNtoB! + welcome to the forum :) haha yes, isn't that human nature ?  I think you're right about a lot of wedding couples being in the same boat - just the way it goes :) That being said, I also believe it will all work out great.......and you'll wonder afterwards why you felt so worried - completely understandable, and also human nature :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
