Just got engaged a month and a half ago, and we are planning a wedding for December 2014 in the Mayan.  I have narrowed it down to 2 resorts: Iberostar Tucan and the Grand Sunset Princess...how on earth did everyone decide on which hotel to go with? I am feeling so overwhelmed right now!!

Any planning tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, as I am feeling rather clueless right now! THANKS!

Picking your resort is a very hard decision! One thing that might help is considering whether your guests will want to leave the resort to explore Playa Del Carmen at all, or if you think they'd be happy staying around the resort most of the time. The Iberostar Tucan is in an area called Playacar, which is a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute, $7 cab ride into town. The Grand Sunset Princess is a 20 minute, $25 cab ride into town.

I'd also have a look at recent Tripadvisor reviews for both places to get an overall feel of both resorts. Hope that helps a little bit!  :)

Thanks, I have done some research and although the Grand Sunset Princess wedding packages sound more appealing, I am really leaning towards the Iberostar, just based on the beach and reviews on the ocean and the more "Mexican" feel of the resort.  Still waiting on pricing for DJ/after party type reception for after dinner to see if they have reasonable prices

We just got our wedding video from our wedding back in May! Our friend did it for us, so we told him he could take his time with getting it to us.

We were married in Tulum on May 22nd, 2013. Although I was a 2013 Canadian bride, I still wanted to share this with all my fellow Canucks!  :)

Here's a blog post with some more info about our venue and our friend that did the video: http://loveandrum.com/marry-me-katy-mikee-in-tulum

Here is a question I haven't seen...probably because it hasn't been much of an issue...

My question is this..now that our dollar isn't at parity...how are you dealing with conversion rates? all my costs (hotel/photographer etc) are all invoicing me in USD. I am stuck paying an extra 760 for some services just in conversion costs!!!

I am a newbie to international shopping, what is the best way to pay these? Credit card is out because they charge an extra 2.5% on top of the conversion.....

I would love your ideas and what you are doing!

@@kaleighMCL - Cash baby!  LOL    Actually I'm very nervous about carrying that much cash with us but we're going to try our best to pay off everything beforehand and bring only the necessary amount.  Worst case, I'm thinking if we have to maybe some traveller's cheques but I've never used them.

You would still be paying the conversion amount though? is the hotel letting you settle up down there? i'm just finalizing all my details and would not want to carry that much in cash - but i also don't want to pay an extra 2.5% by using my credit card....i feel like such a newb

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
