Congrats BridetobeABCD!! I am new to this forum and am planning a wedding in the Mayan in either January or February 2014. I have to say that right now everything seems pretty overwhelming and I am not even sure where to begin. While my wedding will be fairly small, I am in the process of trying to choose a resort. I want something that is nice but cost effective so my siblings and their children can attend. I am leaning towards the iberostar quetzal or the Barcelo Maya Beach right now. My fiancé and I just booked a holiday to the Barcelo for 2013 to see if we like the hotel and if we do, I think we may choose that as our resort for the wedding. What resorts are you considering? I found 2 really cool vendors for wedding invitations. Gottheinvite.com is an Alberta based company that makes a passport style wedding invitation. They look fun and because they have no minimum order requirements, is perfect for me. The other company is Winnipeg based and they also make really nice invitations for destination weddings. The website is empireinvites.ca they are reasonably priced, but require a minimum order so they are better for larger groups. I look forward to sharing and comparing as we plan our weddings!
Hey just checking in to see how your planning is going?! I have chosen my resort I chose the Royal Cancun and the Gran caribe real. my guess will be staying in both of the resorts half and half I sent my invitations out in end of March and the RSVP was the beginning of May. We have about 40 people coming to our wedding. Other than that I have my wedding website done and I have chosen my dress I hired my DJ and I hired my photographer. Now I'm looking into bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen attire as well as mother of the bride and mother of the groom dresses. I hope you can share how you're planning has been!!!!

hi ladies, i am getting married in the mayan january 24, 2014.  we are booked at the Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun.  ktsok - my  sister got married at the Barcelo Colonial 2 years ago.  it was great!  nice resort and good food.    from my research, there are not very many resorts in the mayan that include a private dinner, and both the barcelo and now sapphire do. ktsok and bridetobeabcd - have either of you booked yet?
Hey !! I have booked the royal cancun and the gran caribe real for a one week Vacation. Our wedding date is January 25, 2014!!! How is your planning coming along???

Bridetobeabcd Sorry about the last post... im not getting along with the mobile site very well at the moment! Eek we are only one day apart! So exciting! Planning is going well... 36 booked and counting! Bought my necklace, earrings and veil as well. Having sone trouble with shoes. .. so far I have purchased 4 pairs but after realized I dont really love any of them so back to the drawing board I guess. Struggling with what to do for decorations... really trying to limit what I take down with me, but also trying to limit my spending at the resort since by the time everyone books we will be double the amount of people that our package covers. What are you doing for decorations?

BridetobeABCD and TaraB - sorry for the delay in responding. I haven't been on the site in a while. It is great to hear that your plans are well underway. January will be here before you know it! After all my thoughts on the Barcelo and Iberostar, we ended up booking at the Grand Palladium Colonial. Our date is February 5, 2014...less than 6 months away! There will be 23 of us in total going to Mexico which is wonderful. As of right now, we have pretty much all the major things purchased and booked. We are just working on the smaller details like getting formal invitations so everyone knows the time of the wedding, dinner etc. We sent out a std in April and all our guests booked based on that so we don't really need RSVPs now. We are also busy downloading music and creating playlists on our iPods as we have opted to use an iPod dock rather than hiring a dj. I have to get my dress fitted too, but still have time for that. Other than that, I think we have everything covered. At the end of the day, I decided that for my own sanity, simple was better and so I have opted not to worry about loads of decorations or oot bags. That has brought my stress level down significantly. The only thing I am contemplating is whether or not to purchase maracas and put our names and wedding date as a souvenir for our guests. The other option I have is to have the photographer take pictures of each family and then send each guest their family picture after the wedding in our thank you card. Not sure what to do yet. I am not sure about everyone else's experience, but the most difficult part for me was choosing the resort. Once that was done, everything else just seemed to fall into place. Good luck fellow brides! I am sure everything is going to be beautiful and amazing! Kathy

Hey Tara! I just got married in May in Tulum and purchased almost all of our decor rather than renting since we live down here in Playa Del Carmen. If you're looking for simple, affordable decorations that you won't have to drag around in your luggage, let me know! I'm doing a little rental business on the side, and have priced everything very reasonably. I have lanterns, bottles and vases for flowers, mason jars, rustic vintage details, etc.

The quotes from resorts, venues and wedding coordinators for decor down here are outrageous! I felt most of the pricing was so unfair so I wanted to give fellow brides an alternative to the vendors down here. Send me a PM if you're interested in seeing the pricing list and photos of everything. :)

Hey! We have similar dates!

We are getting married on May 16th,2014.

Time is going by too fast! I haven't tried on an dresses yet and am kind of nervous as we decided to have our wedding outside of the resort.

How's your planning going?

Planning is going well. We have only confirmed our venues...haven't gotten too much into everything yet. My fiance and I are living in South Korea, teaching. I was able to head back to Canada for two weeks this summer and try on dresses. I was happy to find one. Honestly, you may have better luck than you think. Don't be nervous...everything will work out just fine.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
