I thought I would start a thread for Canadian Brides planning on getting married in the Cancun/Riviera Maya area in 2014 !!!!!

Would love to hear about any planning you have done so far or any ideas that we could share with each other.

I am in the early planning stages of our wedding - I have not even picked a resort yet. So many to choose from :) I am thinking of going to Mexico this winter for a vacation and plan on looking around at the different resorts to get a better idea :)

Also if you have any suggestions for Canadian Vendors, I am sure we would all appreciate the help :)

Thanks to you all and I hope to hear from you all soon !!!!

PS - HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Congrats to you BridetobeABCD! and hope your Thanksgiving went well too :) - it's one of my fav holidays.....even the leftovers are great - mmm

I'm a retired Canadian in Playa del Carmen - indulging my artistic side - creating wedding sculptures for couples getting married in our beautiful Mayan Riviera.

I know of a great Canadian photographer who also lives here, and would be an awesome professional to hire to record your wedding memories in the best possible light! I'm happy to share his contact info with you if you'd like :)

Wishing you all the best with your research + planning process. You've given yourself ample time, so hopefully can avoid the pitfall that last-minute pressures bring. Have a wonderful journey - Enjoy!

Hello Bridetobe ABCD,

As a Wedding Planner in the Riviera Maya, I am happy to assist you in going to sites visits to help you find your location for your wedding.  I work with Resorts, Villas, and Beach clubs.

I must point out that is so much fun to plan fair ahead, it gives you plenty of time to scout out your  resort that will best describes you and that accommodate that budget you have planned.

Feel free to email: [email protected]

Happy Planning

Joyce!

Congrats BridetobeABCD!! I am new to this forum and am planning a wedding in the Mayan in either January or February 2014. I have to say that right now everything seems pretty overwhelming and I am not even sure where to begin. While my wedding will be fairly small, I am in the process of trying to choose a resort. I want something that is nice but cost effective so my siblings and their children can attend. I am leaning towards the iberostar quetzal or the Barcelo Maya Beach right now. My fiancé and I just booked a holiday to the Barcelo for 2013 to see if we like the hotel and if we do, I think we may choose that as our resort for the wedding. What resorts are you considering? I found 2 really cool vendors for wedding invitations. Gottheinvite.com is an Alberta based company that makes a passport style wedding invitation. They look fun and because they have no minimum order requirements, is perfect for me. The other company is Winnipeg based and they also make really nice invitations for destination weddings. The website is empireinvites.ca they are reasonably priced, but require a minimum order so they are better for larger groups. I look forward to sharing and comparing as we plan our weddings!

Thank you Kstok. It looks like we are both planing a wedding for around the same time :) I too am finding everything overwhleming and lots of decisions to me made however it is also very exciting!

How are you finding the pricing for the travel to your wedding? Are you booking through the resort and paying flights seperately or booking through a TA?

I think we will end up booking through a TA or directly through the tour operator like Sunwing, but have not made any moves toward doing that yet. I did receive a quote for a group rate from Sunwing for for 2014 AI pricing at the Barcelo. It seems quite high so I want to talk to the rep about it. Mi do think that given it is a smaller wedding, mothers may be less of an advantage booking as a group and it may be more cost effective to let the guests book their own travel. I am not completely sure what to do. Are you any further along deciding on a resort or have you booked your research trip yet?

For another great invitation option, there's another Wpg based company called "Cherish The Moment" that makes great homeade invitations. Natasha is the owner and will be showcased in this weekend's Welcome Wagon Bridal Show at the Radisson Hotel downtown. For anyone in the Wpg area, be sure to drop by and check her out......along with lots of other great vendors and a bridal fashion show.......Free to all brides-to-be and a +1.

  • 2 months later...

hi ladies,

i am getting married in the mayan january 24, 2014.  we are booked at the Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun.

ktsok - my  sister got married at the Barcelo Colonial 2 years ago.  it was great!  nice resort and good food.    from my research, there are not very many resorts in the mayan that include a private dinner, and both the barcelo and now sapphire do.

ktsok and bridetobeabcd - have either of you booked yet?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
