Bringing it all to Mexico

Recommended Posts

We were asked how many people we had with us going through customs and the lady said to me "because you have a lot of wedding supplies" - we had 15 small square vases ($3 each) and then a few frames with pictures in them and message in a bottle favours as well as napkins, my hanger and some other things - nothing major! I had my MOH and mother going through with my husband and I and so I said 4 and she said "ok" and let us go. My brother and his fiancé were searched and they asked how much everything was worth and she just say the vases were $2 and the frames she had were $3 to $5, they let them go no problem.

The space saving bags are a great idea! I wouldn't have thought of those for non-clothing items. I'm definitely worried about all the stuff we are going to lug to Mexico with us.

Careful with the air tight bags. They might make more room but they definitely don't reduce weight. Unless you have a ton of light items that take a lot of space for what they weight (such as lanterns, or sweaters- not like you would need them) make sure you weight the suitcase before you leave.

so question.... do I have to declare and show receipts of my handmade faux flowers and table/chair decor?    They are not gifts...

I understand I have to declare any gifts I bring:  OOT bags and favors, etc.

Cuz I already know if I have to declare everything including my decor its going to be over $300.

Should I only bring reciepts for the gifts and favors... and just give estimate if they ask on the decor.

Cuz most of my decor and my flowers I really only paid almost nothing for out of pocket, due to won/ or given gift cards.   But on the reciept it shows total $ with gc.  :(

I have my bouquet + 6 small BM bouquets

gel beads for the centerpieces

8 chair starfish decor items

12  OTT bags for wedding party

60  maracas favors

Bride & Groom wedding chair signs

Photo Guest Book

Cake Topper

might be also bringing 6 table runners and napkins

it's just the gifts.

you could also "create your own" receipts for the decor, in case you're worried. but tell them it's wedding decorations, and personal belongings, and you're taking it back home with you. you shouldn't have an issue.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
