Striving for 150!!!

I only brought 2 people for the first one, it was nice because then I could figure out what I really liked without having too many opinions in my ear and now that I now and have it narrowed down I will bring more people because if it isnt the style I like then I wont even try it on! LOL

I have been to Punta Cana once and loved, loved it... but over the past two years looking at resorts there it is always way more expensive then anywhere else... not to mention that flying anywhere from Canada that isnt Toronto is super expensive to begin with, maybe one day it will come down in price or we will get mopre competition here and other airlines will have to drop their prices although I dont see that happening within the next 13 months!

I have a couple different companies looking at it for me and my fingers are crossed hopefully I will hear something soon and I can get it figured out!!!!!

Look into Dominican Republic. Its gorgeous there and is supposed to be the second cheapest place to go (first is cuba. I went on a vacation to cuba last year mind you it was flying from Toronto, for $800 taxes included pp.) I know how hard it is to change your mind but I cant tell you there are some beautiful resorts in Dominican as well. Next cheapest beside Mexico is supposed to be Jamaica.

Hey guys! I need to reach my 150 too! I'm not paying the $30 LOL I'm a big believer in not paying for anything that is offered for free!

Anywho- I saw some of you debating locations. Initially we wanted Mexico- we went to Secrets Capri in the Mayan Riviera and fell in love. We saw a few weddings while we were there. We weren't even engaged (my fiance had intended to propose but I suspected he would and told my mom so he didnt...haha the premise of the entire vacation btw was so he could propose but since I was on to him, he didn't DARN) but we knew right away we wanted a destination wedding.

When we started shopping the idea around to our friends and family- they could not understand why Mexico- news reports did not help- even though my fiance and I just vacationed there and felt totally safe. I suggested DR where my fiance was born, but he said no because it wouldn't feel like a destination to him since he's from there.

I kept arguing with hi that the best all-inclusive resorts are in DR but he wouldn't budge. When he finally went to visit family- they were upset that he would not consider DR knowing they could not leave DR to see us wed. Why Mexico? They kept asking. He had a change of heart when he returned.

While I do not regret our decision- at one point I almost did. When our guest count went from many to a few I said "We should have just stood with our original choice" I also won a photography contest but had to decline the prize because the photographer is based in Mexico. There are a ton of awesome vendors in Mexico and its a little harder to find great ones in DR but slowly and surely we are getting there!

I love to talk so anyone on this thread responds and we will chat for days! LOL My site thread is pretty inactive. I feel like I'm talking to myself. No fun.

I am slowly but surely getting to 150, and I too do not believe in paying for anything I can get for free. Jolene, that is a good idea about the dress shopping. Bring a few, pick your faves and then take the crowd. I have watched way too many episodes of Say Yes to the Dress, and see so many girls getting discouraged by their friends and family. If I say I love the dress, I do not need someone telling me it looks hideous. I am mainly bringing people for support and to share in the excitement. Not really for their opinion. I will make up my own mind.

I have never been to the Dominican, but I have heard that it is beautiful and the people are very friendly. I do think the prices are going up because it is becoming more of a vacation hot spot. I got a really good deal with Majestic Colonial for August next year. The flights really are the hardest part. Most of my family only has one airport option as well. If we want to fly out of anywhere but Philly, it becomes at least $100 more. My FI's sister may be moving to Japan next year due to her husband being in the military. Those ticket prices are between one and two thousand. But that is on the opposite side of the world. I can't believe Canada is equally as expensive.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
