Hey Ladies,

I don't usually post a new thread, but I'm super sad right now!!

I had my decor all planned out, and purchased - my wedding is only 2 months away now.   So my plan was to use Balloons filled with helium (like those really large round balloons) as centerpeices, they would be kinda floating about 3 feet above the tables...so I emailed the resort back in May - they said oh yes, we can blow up the balloons with helium.  So I went ahead and special ordered the balloons, made these luminary bags to attach them to (to keep them from floating away), bought the twine and was just really excited about it.

Today the WC replied to an email of mine from last week in which I was just reconfirming details, and she said we don't have helium, but we can still blow up your balloons...but that means they wont float!  WTF!!

I know, I know, everyone says it'll still be nice without the balloons, but I'm gutted about it.

I originally wanted the chinese lanterns but they told me they can't do those because they have no where to hang them (hence balloons).

What should I do?  Just use the luminaries and forget about it?

I might try to make something like these garlands, but they still need to be hung, and if they have nowhere to hang things, that's a problem.

I just really didn't want my wedding to be cookie cutter and boring..

Soooo sad.

They Cant do any lanterns? There must be something to hang off from the celing or walls.. maybe some sort of string from wall to wall they can hang off of? Paper lanterns are fairly light and dont need anything too concrete really. I would ask for photos of the room and then improvise as best you can... There must be a way to make that room pop! You could also look into an outside vendor for the helium. You may have to pay a vendor fee, but if you are really set and have all the supplies it may be worth it. Also I know wal mart in Canada sells helium tanks (mini) perhaps there is a place there that may sell something like that. I know Cuba doesnt have wal mart, but maybe you can google some places?

Hope that helps!

I've been wanting to tell you I saw something on Pinterest where you can blow up ballons with baking soda and vinegar, and I think they still float! Just a tip, google it maybe and look into it:) helium is at a shortage right now so maybe they'd do this for u

Dw bride - can you use a dowel cut to size to stand them on, and put them in a bud vase? there has to be some alternative... let me keep thinking.

LOVE the idea, Allie! That would be cute too!

hmmmm, I'll have to try the vinegar baking soda thing tonight.  the balloons are just sitting at home anyway!  If that works, that's definitely an idea.

Also the Dowels might work,  I had thought of that,  but I know they don't have vases and I am already bringing alot so I probably couldn't swing it.  my Fiance even offered to go in and hang them from the ceiling for me, but that's too much work, and I'm already kind of over it!

On the plus side I can definitely get them blown up with helium here - so I'll be using balloons for my AHR and every party we have from now until eternity!!

I think I worked it out, I'll just have luminary bags, and some candles and our favors, and that'll be it on the tables.  In the end I've decided not to plan for anything else because I really don't want to be dissapointed again, but regardless it's going to be great!

I've been thinking again. What if...

take the balloons with you. use the dowels and the luminary bags - cut the dowels to be the same height as the bag (typically you can get the hardware store to do this for you pretty cheap per cut if you don't have a saw). Use other balloons filled with sand (collect it on the beach and fill them with a funnel!) to weight down the dowels inside the bags. Drop a marble in the balloons to keep them upright on top of the dowels.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
