Our budget is very small and we need enough food to fill people at dinner time. Any help is appreciative..

When we told our parents what kind of "reception" we wanted, they thought we were crazy.  We wanted an old school type, family reunion/cookout.  We planned to have it catered by Famous Dave's and have it be very casual.  Our have a potluck, informal, "We're Married" type thing.  you guys provide the bulk of the items and dishes and have certain people bring sides.

A BBQ is always a good idea - burgers, hotdogs and sausages (Costco), pasta salad, caesar salad. Or another affordable option is a Pasta buffet so have chafers with spaghetti and a red sauce and penne with fared or something ... Than caesar salad and garlic bread

I totally agree. Salad, bread, different types of pasta, sauce, meat/veggie and dessert can make a really good meal for everyone and each person can customize as they go. Good luck!

Some people are doing a taco bar.  Should be cheap tortillas, ground beef shredded cheese lettuce, salsa, Sour cream.  Easy to set-up and fun for your guests!  Rice and Beans as side items.   Chips with Salsa, queso and guacamole.

I like the idea of the taco bar. You could do soft and hard shells and even burritos! Mexican side dishes hold well (rice, beans, chips) and I think most people could find something to eat, especially if you offer chicken or fish along with beef options.
