Gran Bahia Principe - Akumal

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm getting married at the Gran Bahia Principe Akumal on Feb. 2nd, 2013.  I have just begun emailing with the wedding planner at the resort.  I have a question I am hoping others can help me with...

The resort has asked us to chose a set menu for the reception dinner, so everyone will have the same appitizer, soup, main and dessert.  How are we to choose a set menu that everyone will enjoy? People have such different tastes! Is this normal? Did others have to do this? She said for groups larger that 25 this is their policy and is not giving me any other options.  I would at least like our guests to be able to choose their own main course...

What have others done?

Thanks!

Yup, that's the policy.  The food is delicious and I think everyone just eats what they like off the plate.  I'm a very picky eater and I have never been hungry after one of the wedding receptions.

Hi Kara! I am getting married there on April 10/13. Have you been there before? I was wondering the same thing about our dinner. I dont like the idea of everyone eating the same things either....but we can make it work! The food there is all good if we just pick foods that are plain, i think we'll be ok!

Hi!

I have a question for you ladies!!

I'm just starting to have some answers to my emails form GBP... For the wedding ceremony, we asked for the beach Hammocks location, and they told us the only time they have is 5.30 pm (8th may 2013)... I found it a bit late, but we really want to get married at that specific place on the resort, so it's not a big deal.... :-)

Then I asked to have the wedding dinner at Arlequin's Restaurant (because we really liked that restaurant when we went to GBP 2 years ago...)

The manager of the Hotel answered that there is a 10 US$ extra per person for that restaurant, because it is a Gourmet restaurant...

Also, he told us the only 2 hours available for dinner was 6pm or 9 pm... Otherwise I have to make a private reception, and it's 35$/person.

(we are getting married at 5h30 so 6 is too soon and 9 is to late !)

WOW, I am really confused now !! I have 75 guests so 35 $/person is WAY to expensive... We also have to pay for poolside reception after the dinner, DJ, etc. We are already paying 1 200$ for the "wedding package" which is supossed to include the wedding dinner....

I dont' know what to think... Is it normal to have 10 $ extra per person for a Gourmet restaurant?

Thank you very much !

Typically Arlequin isn't offered at all, so $10 a person I could see.  It is the gourmet restaurant and the food is far better than the other options, so it definitely makes sense.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
