Wedding Photography Deposit- Wire Sent Back!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I have just begun to plan my wedding in Jamaica at the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites for September 2, 2013 and it already seems like things are going wrong!  I found the most amazing photographer and had to send a sizeable deposit via wire.  I sent the wire transfer on Monday through my bank, and it had not yet been received by the photographers bank as of yesterday (Thursday).

I called my banker today and he did some research for me.  Apparently there was an intermediary bank the funds had to go through in NY, and once they sent the money to my photographer's bank, that bank kicked the funds back with the following message:  "Unable to apply credit.  Bank branch requires less".  My banker as well as I am completely bewildered!  And now I am out the $45 it took to SEND the wire, and the $36 the intermediary bank kept for the inconvenience.

Has this happened to anyone before?  What should I do?! sad.gif

Thanks for your help.

I'm not to familiar with wires.  Have you thought about trying a different form of payment.  We paid our deposit and final balance through paypal.  That way if something happens you get everything back that you paid.

Yikes! That's annoying and no fun. I'm getting married in Jamaica too and using Saab. They offered a few forms of payment, one of which was wire, and one was PayPal. I opted to go with PayPal since I use it so often and am comfortable with it. I guess you'll have to contact the photographer again to request an alternate form of payment (but sounds like you'll lose the $81, which sucks). Sorry that happened!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
