La Barcaza - Opinion

Recommended Posts

@@rednlovinit21 I am just doing the reception on the boat. I wanted to keep the decorations simple also. I was just planning on having tablecloths, centre pieces, and white lights (not sure if lighting is provided by the boat or not)

I did get the quote from them but it doesn't say anything about plates or pricing. I just have a quote for the international open bar, the dj, and mixed grill. I am assuming they would provide the plates and cutlery anyway. but I wasn't 100% sure on that.

I am having my ceremony at the garden gazebo at Melia Caribe tropical. I wanted the La Barcaza for the reception because I thought that would be different.

I asked about this! White square plates are provided for free you can purchase different ones from the decorator but the square ones are really nice they're in a few pictures I found online

@@jwalsh you must be getting so excited!! I don't think I'm doing assigned seating but I am also going to do the 8 person tables. Are you guys having a sweetheart table? I can't decide if we should sit by ourselves or not. Also what company are you using to decorate and what kind of decorations are you doing?

I'm using Carribean Celebrations We're just going to do a wedding party table of 8 since theres exactly 8 of us all together :)

@@kcole123 hmm now that I know i won't have to pay for the white ones I just might do that too! It definitely will be different and I'm sure everyone will love it. Everytime I tell my group or show them pictures they get so excited. And seriously how many people can say they had their wedding reception on a boat!

I'm super nervous because I am doing my ceremony with them too on the beach and I really don't want anyone seeing me in my dress before I walk down the aisle.. guess I will be changing in the bathroom and making everyone close their eyes?? haha im sure it will be an adventure!

@@jwalsh you will have to post some pictures too when you get back! Are you doing favors or anything?

I am thinking about having my reception on the boat. Just wondering if anyone has experienced any extra charges/hidden charges outside of your quotes.

I just got back from my wedding in Punta Cana and we used La Barcaza for our pre-wedding celebration. We had an incredible time and I definitely recommend them. They were extremely flexible and accommodating. About an hour before we were due to depart, we had a mini personal emergency and had to postpone our departure time by one hour. They had no problem with this and were happy to wait for us which was amazing. Luckily, we were at Now Larimar where they pick us up directly from the resort beachfront, no transport involved (I'm not sure what their pickup is like for other resorts). My 90 year old grandmother was with us and she has a hard time walking, mostly uses a cane and/or wheelchair. For months, I stressed over how she would make it onto the boat (there is a mini boat that comes to get you from the shore and then brings you to the bigger boat). One of the men picked her up in his arms and delicately placed her in the boat and helped her out all night long, every step of the way. She was so happy and I could not be more grateful!

Since ours was a casual pre-wedding party we didn't have any decorations or requests for special items so I can't vouch for how that would turn out but I can say that we had a phenomenal time and the staff were incredible.

Note: Daniel will want you to pay 100% cash a couple of days prior to departure. We weren't comfortable with that since we couldn't guarantee that everyone would show up and he would not issue refunds. We were planning on 34 people total but only paid Daniel for 27, to be on the safe side. As luck would have it, several of our guests weren't able to make it due to flight delays so we made the right choice. Just remember, you can always pay him more if more people show up but you can't get refunds for less people.

Now Larimar was wonderful! We loved it and all of our guests loved it. I really have no complaints at all. If you're doing La Barcaza and Now Larimar for your wedding, you'll have a great time, guaranteed. Feel free to let me know if you have any specific questions. Enjoy!!

The wedding coordinator Kata met with us two days before the event to confirm all the decorations. We did not get the specific gazebo we requested nor did we get our desert that we paid for. The dinner was dry and so half if my guests did not eat it and left hungry. That was embarrassing. When I told the coordinator this and asked for a refund for the dinner that no one ate she refused. She also lied and said that desert was provided even though we have a video of the whole wedding which shows no desert was given at all. The venue (boat) was not clean. I wouldn't book them again. All they want is money and when their guests aren't satisfied they do nothing about it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
