My 'Bachelorette' Engagement Story!

Recommended Posts

I call it my 'Bachelorette' engagement story because the scene that my fiance set up when he proposed to me, made me feel like it was a scene out of the ABC show 'The Bachelorette'

So I had been telling my bf for a few months how I eventually want to take him to a local lake near my families cabin, as its so beautiful (we go to the cabin quite a bit in the summer time). So last month on the long weekend we had joined my family up at the cabin for the weekend. Friday night my bf made plans to go golfing with my brother the following morning. The next day comes and guys go golfing, my mom walks over to her friends cabin to visit, and I stay back with my grandmother. An hour later the boys come back, saying it was way too hot to golf and they only got a few rounds in. My bf then mentioned the lake I had been wanting to show him and if I wanted to for a walk, so we decided to head out.

We get to the lake and began walking up the trails, and at one point the trail turns to the left, so just as we were turning the corner, my bf says, 'Hey what's that down there?' and as I look to my right, down a little side path that leads to the edge of the water are 2 white carpets, a little white table with 2 chairs, a red table cloth, and a big bouquet of roses in a vase. I immediately stopped in my tracks, put my hands over my mouth and said, 'no, no no way!, are you serious!', then he said, 'lets go check it out'... I just knew right away it was for me! As he took my hand and led me down the trail to the table I began to cry! He sat me down on the chair and we just sat at the table holding hands while I cried. He then began to tell me how much he loved me, and how good we are together. He went on to talk about how the connection we have is so amazing and so strong, and that no one has what we have together. He told me he loves me so much and wants to spend the rest of his life making me happy. He then got down on one knee, pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him!

Of course I said yes, and my hand was shaking while he slid the ring on my finger!

We sat there for about 20 minutes just talking about our relationship and how happy I was that he surprised me the way he did. I asked him right away, how the HECK he pulled all this off! He began to tell me that he had never gone golfing with my brother that morning, and that my mom hadn't walked over to her friends cabin, that really him and my brother left, picked up my mom down the road, and all 3 of them drove to the lake and set everything up.(They had rented the table, chairs and bought the flowers the day before). He then said that him and my brother left my mom at the lake to guard the table/chairs/flowers...and I was like WHAT! My mom is here!! He began to laugh, yep...she's around here somewhere, and your brother should be here too to pick her up. They told him to just drive me back to the cabin and that they would come to pack up the table and chairs!

We got back to the cabin a half hour later (my mom and brother showed up not too long afterwards) and my mom (being excited as she was!) set up the table and chairs in our backyard at the cabin, had neighbors over and we had a little engagement celebration. (she had bought a cake and had been keeping it at our neighbors place!!)

Overall I was completely shocked and couldn't believe how romantic that setting was!! When we had been sitting at the table by the lake I told him how I felt like I was in a scene of the bachelorette and was waiting any minute for cameras to come out of the bushes lol

It was an amazing moment, and I couldn't have asked for a better proposal! Below is a picture of the set up by the lake!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
