Anyone been to Huatulco?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

New to the site.  Thinking about having destination wedding in Playa Del Carmen since information is so easy to find.  Our first though was Huatulco, since it's different/less main stream, but I'm having SUCH a hard time finding any info.  So far all I have come up with are the resorts (and I would prefer not to get married at a resort) and private estates.  The folks from Las Brisas says that it's quite private - but I'm skeptical.  And the idea of paying $99 a head for reception dinner that is probably exactly what everyone else on the resort is eating absolutely kills me.  The private estate we found was nice, but out of the way.  Transporting 75 people is getting on my nerves, mostly because I can't find any information on transportation around there.

Also, is there much to do and see around there.  I am not the kind of person that lies on the beach all day.  I like to go out, do stuff, and see stuff.  Is Huatulco too low key for me?

Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks!

I've been spending a month (February) every year for the past 17 years in Huatulco.   This year we'll be there in November and again in February.   Its a little bit of paradise.    Spectacular weather, 36 beaches (many of them completely undeveloped and often empty), great restaurants, hotels, villas & condos.   Lots of folks get married there.    I suggest you contact Palm Princess.   Let them know your plans & preferences..  Either Valerie or Ariana should be able to help. http://www.palmprincessmexico.com/Content/default.asp     Did I say Huatulco is also extremely safe?

Hola GingaNinja! I recently shot a wedding at Dreams Huatulco, and it was beyond awesome:

Huatulco is very small and there's not much nightlife going on, but there's a special charm to it, traditional and quaint.

GingaNinja! I love that name =)

First off, let me say that you are on the right track when you are thinking Huatulco for your destination wedding. As Samuel mentioned above, the place is beautiful. (His photo shoot is stellar by the way - definitely check it out).

I am very familiar with Huatulco and can help you find all the answers you need. I would start with familiarizing yourself with the area ad what kinds of activities you can partake in. A short list includes, cooking classes, surfing, snorkeling, zip lining, yoga, tours of the coffee plantation and National Park and so much more.

We have written about all the things you can do on our Huatulco Vacation Blog. Start poking around there and see what peaks your interest.

Next I would take a look at the Huatulco Rental Villas available. More often than not you can stay for much cheaper than at the local resorts. There are also options to hire personal chefs to prepare authentic meals for you and your friends/family.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask them here or contact Judy [at] myhuatulcovacation.com and she can handle bookings, tours and special requests for your entire party.

I do hope you choose Huatulco for your wedding but I wish you a magical day wherever you ultimately decide on.

Good luck!

  • 1 year later...

Hi there! I was heavily researching Huatulco because it looked amazing, the price was right, and it was "different" then where most DW's take place. The 2 properties I looked at were Dreams Huatulco and Secrets Huatulco. Both offered a pretty luxurious property, and seemed to be on very private stretches of beach. Reviews said Huatulco is a more "mexican" feel than other destinations such as Cabo and Cancun, and had much nicer water and beaches than PV. It hardly rains, the water was swimmable and the wedding packages at these 2 resorts were favourable.

I chose against Huatulco for one main reason - It is extremely hot. Because we are getting married in May, it would just be way, way too hot. I knew of a wedding that went at the end of March, and the sunburns I heard about..... I read a review saying that Nov-Feb are really the best months to go to avoid this, so if you're planning around that time, then great!

Hope that helps :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
