Question for those who wrote their own vows...

Recommended Posts

Did you memorize them or have a note card?

Was it hard to get through them without crying? I feel like we need to do a rehersal just so I can get the tears out of my system. I was thinking we'd read them to each other the day we do the legal ceremony. Not at the courthouse, but afterwards at home. I don't want to take away from the ceremony, but I worry I won't be able to control my crying & I'll have a red face & runny nose.

Anyone want to share their vows?

We wrote our own vows, yes we both teared up but I wouldn't change a thing. It was special sharing it on our wedding day, I even have our vows in a shadow box frame up in the house.

DH memorized his and I had a note card, I knew their would be no way I would remember it.

Did you carry the notecard in your hand? I think I'll write mine down incase I go blank, but I'm pretty good at memorizing stuff.

That reminds me- he is supposed to write down what he said when he proposed. I was too dizzy & shocked to know what he said! I'd like to know now!

I would definitely carry a notecard, even if you are good at memorizing.

You never know what your emotions might cause you to forget at that moment!

We are incorporating our vows into the Hand Ceremony and having my uncle read it, so we won't be reading our own vows, but we'll be writing part of the ceremony to fit our ideals.

Oh my gosh, I totally had these great vows that I was sure I had memorized. . . I mean it came from my heart, so it seems like it should be no big deal to keep it together right? Ummm, yeah, no! I completely lost it at the altar, mostly because his vows to me were so amazing & made me cry. When it came to my turn I totally had to improvise, and I know I didn't get to say everything I meant to. Although, I think all of that made it that much more memorable & special. My reccomendation: notecards!

The vows almost made me cry, especially hearing his. But I kept it together though. I wrote mine on a piece of notebook paper a few hours before the ceremony. I was completely relaxed and ready to marry him so they just flowed out naturally. My MOH held onto mine until I needed them, and hubby kept his in his pocket.

My MOH snapped this pic of me writing my vows at Las Caletas when I wasn't looking:

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
