BARCELO MAYA PALACE DELUXE

Recommended Posts

The Barcelo Maya Palace has a mini-mall below their lobby level - with an assortment of tourist items with everything from clothes, sunglasses + flip flops to jewelry  + souvenirs, - it would depend on how many people you're buying for, and what your budget is.

I can't believe I haven't seen this thread before! We are leaving for the Barcelo in just 40 days! YUP I am SO excited! Our wedding is November 28th, 2012 at 3pm at the Palace Gazebo!

We have 26 people booked, most staying at the Colonial and a few at the Palace. We will be staying two weeks at the Palace! We have the Strawberry Passion package because we wanted the reception on the beach. I forget all the choices we made for our reception food but the main meal is Surf and Turf, I know that much! Our coordinator is Victoria and she's been good so far.

We also booked Juan Navarro, we loved his work since the day we first saw it and he is super reasonably priced! We also booked PlayaWeddings to do videography after seeing their videos and hearing from several past destination brides who didn't have their day filmed and wished they had. Here's a tip for getting around the $500 fee (as we were going to have to pay $1000 because of the two vendors), go to Barcelo.com and sign up for mybarcelo, they send out deals every so often and you can book your vendor two nights at any of the 5 resorts there (we booked the Beach for our two photogs) and we saved ourselves $400 by doing it this way! The rooms were each $297 total for the two nights - much more manageable than the $500 for them to be there for the day!

I have the centrepiece emails and the menus as well if anyone wants them I can send them to you if you give me your email. Because I am done all the planning process with the coordinator already if you have any questions about the process of that let me know and I can try to help out!

I am SOOOOOO excited our wedding is getting so close!

Happy Planning Palace Brides!

Hi Karen!

I know exactly what you are going through, I have also stayed at the Grand Sunset Riviera Maya at peak season and paid hundreds less than the Palace...from what I have researched and also heard from people who are familiar with both resorts, the Barcelo Palace is much more superior to the Sunset...I will be able to speak for myself and let you know after I am back in December :)

We are getting married on Nov 28th and decided to go with a travel agent to help with booking our group. I had a VERY hard time with the rates we received because my FI and I are the price watchers and last minute travellers typically.

We have people from Calgary and Toronto coming and our rates were as follows: Calgary Palace $1719, Calgary Colonial $1483, Toronto Palace $1615, Toronto Colonial $1385.  We felt giving people the option to spend more or less would be perfect and everyone seemed to really appreciate it!

I know to people who are used to traveling and booking last minute online like we also do usually these prices are high, and I thought so too but I can assure you that these prices were fabulous for a group booking that is started months and months in advance! We searched high and low and with every single provider and these were the best at the time of quotes in Feb 2012.

There are different ways to do your wedding booking, though, and we gave people the option to book with the group or on their own. All but 4 are coming as a part of the group. With our group we will all be on the same direct flights and will also be staying in the same buildings at the resort.

Yes I know that if you search now, 40 days out from our departure date you can get a cheaper trip and I have been watching this all along and just now the prices are starting to somewhat lower for some providers and not others...also some providers no longer have any trips available on our date. To be exact, on itravel2000.com the Palace from Toronto is $1492 right now, $123 cheaper than our rate and Calgary is $1872 for the Palace, so $153 more than our rates. By doing this lat minute booking for your whole group you risk not getting rooms at the resort you want, not getting direct flights, etc. It all depends on how you want to book and have your guests book.

Trust me, this is the most expensive Mexican vacation we have ever booked, but we decided we had to give a little for our wedding in order to get exactly what we wanted, which was the Barcelo!

Cheers!

Hi FireyNurse,

How exiting! I would love to hear all about it when you get back. We are getting married May 25th on the beach and staying at the Barcelo Maya Palace. We chose the Mint Breeze due to our tight budget, even though I really wanted to reception on the beach. Our wedding coordinator is Victoria as well. She is good it just takes a couple weeks for her to return my emails. Anyways I've never been to Cancun nor ever been to a destination wedding. I'm a little worried of the unknown details of the wedding. I would like to get the centerpiece emails and any advice that you can give me. My email is Sahagun1025@yahoo.com

We are expecting about 40 guests. I noticed some of your guests will not be staying at the Palace will this affect the price in your wedding package?

Hey Juie1025,

I sent you the pdf's I have so you should be seeing them any moment in your inbox.

Victoria is good, she's all I know, haha, but yes she takes some time to reply to emails and sometimes her answers change from email to email even if its the same question (for example about external vendors). There is one thing she asked me for which I am now hearing we are to book ourselves and its Spa appointments. If anyone on here wasn't told this yet, apparently they are asking bride's to make their own spa appointments now. I figured this is fine because as per other bride's experiences the appointments were getting lost when the coordinators were making them. The email for the spa is spa.gerente@barcelomaya.com and the lady who was emailing me was Veronica and she was super quick and very open to questions. I also have the spa price list if anyone wants it.

Our wedding package is the regular Strawberry price (plus add ons as we choose). Because we are staying at the Palace we can have our ceremony at the Gazebo at no cost. Apparently if we stayed at the Tropical and wanted the Gazebo for our ceremony there was a charge of $15 per person to use it for the ceremony but there than that there are no differences. The same rules apply that people can't eat at the restaurants specific to the Palace unless they pay $15 per person but we aren't having any events at those restaurants anyway.

I have been to the Mayan Riviera 5 times and my FI has been 6, we absolutely LOVE it there! We have not been to the Barcelo, though, and booked our wedding there trusting in everyone's fantastic reviews! Have you checked out the large Barcelo thread on here? Its here http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/21746/barcelo-maya-palace-brides/3310 and there are a TON of posts on it regarding anything you can imagine to do with weddings at the Barcelo. I got so many of my tips and tricks and info on there!

I have info  just on planning now but I will be SURE to post all about our experience at the Barcelo after our wedding! I can't wait!

Cheers!

Charity

Here is what we are planning for our tables as we didn't want to spend all the $$ on the Barcelo's centrepiece options - I have been a bit of DIY-er although I wouldn't normally consider myself creative or crafty I sure have become that way since the wedding :o)

This is what we are doing for our centrepieces....well our inspiration!

Our cellophane and lights are purple so it should put a nice purple glow out. There will be 3 per table (our vases are smaller than this and are tall thin squares). We may add ribbon as they have done to the bottom of the vase, or perhaps raffia. It will be kept simple as our favours and my DIY champagne flute favors also bring tons of our colours to the table for a bit of decoration.

$10 centerpiece : wedding bling budget cheap diy flowers led lights pink plastic wrap purple reception submerged IMG 0941

These are some of the different champagne flutes we painted that will decorate the table:

And these are our wedding favours:

The shimmer paper doesn't photograph well so it the little card on our favours says:

"As precious as the ocean's treasures,

Too strong for anyone to measure

Two hearts joined together,

Sharing their lives forever!

Thank you for joining us on our

special day!"

Hello ladies! I am getting married at the Barcelo Palace march 2013 and also have had troubles booking because the resort is full so most of my friends were not able to book. I am using del sol photograph after reading tons of great reviews and I suppose we will have to fork up the ridiculous fee. My WC has not been in contact which I did expect the last few months but am hoping she gets in touch soon. I have Jacqueline. Does anyone else have her for a WC? Any tips on the whole experience? :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
