HELP!!! Majestic Colonial OR Elegance? other suggestions in Punta Cana?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone !

I'm a newbie here...I'm not officialy *engaged* yet, only because my ring is not ready. But I still got the go to start planning the big day/week :)

We're having trouble choosing a resort for our wedding. Both Majestic are at the top of our list since they do so many weddings each year, I would'nt be scared to trust them. Now, making decisions (big) is not really my thing lol so I need all your help/advice. Between Colonial and the elegance which one should we go for, and why? What is the main differences between those 2? Also, if you guys have other suggestions for the resort please tell me !!

Also, am I too late for a wedding on May 8th, 2013 ? (I always wanted to get married on a May 8th just because my mom got married on that date, and her mother aswell. And both couple are still married :) I would be the 3rd generation .... but I really think it is getting to late now... Unless maybe I choose a less popular resort!)

Thanks in advance for your replies ...

(and sorry if I made mistakes.. english is not my first language undecided.gif)

Hi!

Im actually going away on vacation to the Colonial next week :) The Elegance is supposed to be the 'upscale' sister resort to the colonial - it is adults only. Do yo plan on having children at the wedding? I have read reviews on TripAdvisor that the Colonial is more fun, always has a lot going on for the guests. Its really what you prefer.. Have you been to either?

Good luck!! :)

Hey Lauren !

I hope you'll enjoy your vacation! I've attend a wedding in 2010 at the Colonial and it was great. So I'm more than thrilled about the Elegance being "upscale" lol... I just don't want the cost for my guest to be too much! We'll see.. I read that at the Elegance there is only one part that is adult only (club) so either one would be perfect since we *might* have some kids coming !

Please come back here to tell me how was your vacation !!!

You are correct, the Elegance has an adults only section "the elegance club" My wedding will be May 29th at the Majestic Elegance and we will have several children until 18 attending. :o) We choose ME because it was newer, and seemed to be more upscale. Also read reviews stating the restaurants on the ME side are better, but I can't comment on this as we have never been to either resort. As far as pricing goes, I'm wanting to say ME was only $50 total more than MC, so we chose ME. :o)

Can't wait to see which resort you choose!

Just stayed at the Majestic Colonial. It was a lot of fun. The rooms are not as modern but very clean and a lot of space! The entertainment team was awesome, every day there were activities and fun things to participate in for all ages - Volleyball tournament, Bikini Contest, Pool activities. The team is amazing and a lot of fun. I have heard the entertainment is better at the Colonial. The Elegance is supposed to be a bit more upscale but I was very happy to stay at the Colonial.

I saw one wedding on the beach - The ceremony beach site was not private, sits between the elegance and the colonial. The 'alter' area looks like it was made of metal poles painted white.. it was not very attractive at all and was barely covered. Im not sure where the reception took place.

We requested a room by the end of pool and beach. PERFECT location!!

Pros- Beach, large long pool, length of entire resort, entertainment team, large rooms

Cons- Poor drinks/rude bartenders at pool bar, food was very blah.

Best of luck!

The Majestic Elegance and Colonial have been rated #6 and #7 on Tripadvisor. They have both received excellent review and many of the ladies that have already been married there have said great things about it.

If you are going to have guests that expect perfection then they will probably not be satisfied.

For us it was most important that the location was affordable, clean and a nice beach. There are so many restaurants that I am sure everyone will find something they enjoy. Either way - its a vacation - so relax and enjoy.

Thinking too much about it and setting high expectations will only lead to possible dissapointment.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
