Hello ladies!

This is my first post on the website so YAY! My name is Kelsey and I've been engaged for a little over a year but I love hearing the "how you first met" and "how did he propose" stories so I'll start with mine and I hope to read so many more from the rest of you. I apologize it's kind of long but here goes...

My fiance and I met on, believe it or not, Xbox Live. I used to be a huge gamer and we met through a mutual friend of ours while in a party of five or six other people. At first we really didn't notice each other until I heard him speak and I can't exactly describe the feeling but it was almost like a spark, I didn't know his name or anything and I was instantly attracted him and little did I know at the time that he had the same feeling. I was about to watch the movie Zombieland on Netflix with a couple of friends and he asked if he could jump in with us. We spent the next two hours laughing and joking but once the movie was over it was late so my two other friends left and it was just the two of us. We had the usual conversation of where are you from, what kind of games do you play, etc. and before we knew it, it was five in the morning and because we both had to work the next day, we exchanged friend requests and went to bed. I went to sleep with a huge smile on my face that night and all I wanted to do was spend more time with him so over the next several weeks we would watch movies, play games, or just sit and talk for hours on end and over that span of time we were both slowly developing feelings for each other but I being from Virginia and he from Miami I never thought that anything would come of it but fate has a funny way of bringing people together.

At the time I was a freshman in college and after a couple of months of getting to know each other we thought we'd give a long distance relationship a try. For the first few months it was extremely hard because we had no idea how things would be when we met or  if we were even going to be attracted to each other but that December he decided to fly up to VA and take me to DC for a weekend and ladies it truly was the best weekend of my life. It was a very special treat for him because he was born in San Juan, PR and had lived his entire life in Miami so he'd never seen snow or experienced cold weather and to see him freak out over the reflecting pool being frozen over was a very special moment. It truly was a magical evening but because he had an early morning flight the next day and he had to drop me off at my dorm that was over two hours away from the airport we knew we didn't have a lot of time left but we made the most of what we had left. On the way back to the university it was the shortest car ride of my life and before we'd even parked I was already balling because I didn't want him to leave. I thought I'd like him, sure maybe we'd get along well but I wasn't planning on what happened next.

That entire weekend not a drop of snow had fallen and they weren't calling for snow that night but as he walked me to the door of my dorm we started to see the snow fall and I don't if it was just the emotion of it all or it was just the right timing but he dropped down on one knee right there in the snow and told me he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, even though we'd only known each other for five months. I started to cry and realized that I loved him too, I always had and without even thinking I said "yes!" Because he hadn't planned on proposing he didn't yet have a ring but vowed to me that I would have one soon and little did I know that I would have one three months later.

Happily engaged and loving every second I flew to Miami for my spring break that March and shared a week with him and his family. I met his parents and siblings and just fell in love with them, on the day before I was supposed to leave he took me to a Florida Panthers hockey game and after the game he told me that he need to properly propose to me and before I could even react he dropped down on one knee and presented me with my ring right in front of everyone. Needless to say everyone was cheering when I said yes again but when I left the next day neither of us had any idea when we were going to see each other again and I almost didn't get on the plane but because I needed to finish out my first year of college I unwillingly went back home but thankfully that May I was able to go back to Miami but this time for three weeks and that three weeks turned into three months and come August we decided that we couldn't bear another goodbye so I transferred schools and cancelled my return flight home.

I'm now happy to report that my fiance and I just celebrated our two year anniversary and we couldn't be more in love. I'm so happy that I chose to follow my heart and even though it was shock to my family I did what was best for me and never looked back. For now we're just enjoying being engaged but we're looking to set a date for late fall 2014 or early 2015 and we still haven't decided between a wedding abroad or here at home but we'll get there....eventually :)

That's a great story!  This is also my first post.  Ive used this website for many ideas but never posted.  I'll make my story short.  I have known kevin since grade 7.  We were 12 years old.  However, we really didnt start hanging out until grade 9.  We became close friends and basically stayed that way throughout highschool.  We never dated until my last year of highschool.  It was weird at first because we were already such good friends.  And that's basically it!  We've been together ever since.

we bought a house just over 2 years ago.  And he proposed about 4 months ago.  We had never once talked about getting married.  I never once mentioned it as I always believed he would ask when he wanted to, not when I decided.  And if he never asked, that would have been fine too.  And trust me, after 8 years, i was starting to think he never would ask.  haha.  But he did.  At our good friends stag and doe.  He asked them first if it was ok if he did it on that day.  They obviously said yes.  So basically, he got the band to call me up on stage.  I had no idea what was going on.  He then got down on one knee and held out a box with a ring in it.  I was soooo shocked I didnt even answer right away!!! Until my friend in the audience yelled at me to answer! lol.  So I said yes obviously and the band played some sappy song lol.  Everyone cheered and my friends actually got it on video.  I cant believe he did it infront of sooo many people!  That was what was so shocking.  I never ever would have expected that.  But it worked out good. And that's it! Were getting married april 27th, 2013 in Ocho Rios, jamaica.

Oh Andrea that is such an awesome story, I would have probably died if Marden had done something like that haha but I'm so happy for you guys and congrats on choosing Jamaica as your wedding destination! Marden and I considered Jamaica because they obviously take the gold in having some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean but we're leaning more towards Punta Cana if we do have a destination wedding but we live like twenty minutes from the Florida Keys and my fiance and I fell in love with a venue in Key Largo but it's wicked expensive so I'm not sure what we're going to do haha but hopefully we'll figure it soon. We're in no hurry but I wish you all the best in your upcoming wedding, I'm sure it'll be beautiful!

VT and Wallaby: Thank you so much for the well wishes, I hope both of you have the wedding of your dreams and an even more beautiful marriage!

Thats awesome you're considering punta cana.  I have been to the Dominican 5 times now.  I absolutely love it there!  My next choice would have been the riu in peurto Plata, Dominican.   Peurto Plata may not have the best beaches, but the backdrops are gorgeous.  Lovely mountains and great views.  The wedding gazebo at the riu is on a cliff!!!  It's amazing.   And the Cliff is on a point so there is literally ocean on all 3 sides of you.  And mountains in the back.  I went there once and saw a wedding.  The only reason I chose Jamaica is because I have not yet been.  And because it is the easiest country to get married in the caribbean.  Good luck with you wedding though!  And let me know what you decide on!!  All your options sound great.  And if you really love that spot in Florida and are in no rush to get married, then that just means more time to save up!!!

The Riu in Puerto Plata sounds beautiful, I might have to check that out but the problem is that my fiance and I also fell in love with the Jellyfish in Punta Cana, its a beautiful location and it's actually turning out to be way cheaper than the venue in Key Largo so we have to decide what's more important, either we splurge on the venue but then have to cut it tight in every other area of the wedding or we can have it at the Jellyfish and even though it isn't Key Largo, we still end up having almost everything we want and get to spend a week long vacation with our friends and family. They say that choosing a venue is like choosing a wedding dress, when you know you know and that's how it felt with Key Largo but we haven't had a chance to visit Punta Cana so if our budget allows it then we're gonna try to make it down there to visit and see some of the resorts, we're almost set on Dreams Palm Beach but I've been trolling the forums for months trying to compare and contrast it to other resorts so I guess we'll see. If you don't mind me asking where are you honeymooning?

Ya Punta Cana is really nice.  I have been there the beaches are gorgeous.  It doesn't even make sense how blue they are!!!  Especially on a clear day obviously.  We stayed at some place on Bavaro beach in Punta Cana and right next door was the majestic colonial.  There was a wedding going on one day it looked amazing.  Like I said, the only reason I decided on jamaica is because I hadn't been and it's the easiest country to legally get married in.  If you decide on Punta Cana, you will love it.  As for our honeymoon, we probably wont go til the fall.  Our wedding is April 27th, and we are then having a very big at home reception in June. (200 plus people)  So we were thinking end of october or so (after hurricane season) to go to Costa Rica for a honeymoon.

Our stories are so similar! We met in grade 7, didn't start dating till after high school. We were in no rush to get married since we had starting dating very young but after 9 years I was starting to wonder. haha. We were are a concert, he had asked the band if he could bring me up and thankfully they asked if I would freak out which I would have and would have never gotten on stage. We were dancing and out of the blue got down on one knee, I was very shocked! We had drunk strangers around us hugging and cheering. It was a great night! We are getting married May 22, 2013 in Los Cabos.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
