We will be getting married in March of 2014 and going for our site visit the last week of this month. If anyone is considering getting married in DR I am also going to do a site visit at Dreams, Paradisus, and the Now Larimar as well as the Hard Rock just to ensure i picked the right resort. I can give you ladies some info when i return from my trip. I am NOT a DIY bride i don't have a crafty bone in my body and i figured by the time i figured out how to make all of this stuff and ship it down to DR i probably wouldn't be saving much money at all. Cant wait to share tips and get through the stress with you girls! Congrats to all of you!

Congrats KerriAnn! I am excited for you.  I am a 2014 bride and am considering DR as well.  We will be visiting HRPC for a fellow DWB's anniversary/honeymoon party! We are considering the Majestic Colonial, but I look forward to hear what you think about the other resorts and enjoy the trip!!

This thread just made me feel really good! I am a 2014 bride as well....date is still undecided.  I originally wanted 5.11.14 which would be our 3 year anniversary, but now I am leaning more towards end of summer, around when school starts.  We don't have a special date in mind at all, which is proving to be the most difficult part.  I looked at options for where. My dad asked me not to do Mexico and FI doesn't want Jamaica (even though I fell in love with Iberostar) and since we are traveling to PC in May of 2013, I think it would be romantic to travel back to where we had our first vacation.  I have so many ideas for our wedding and he is helping...occasionally.  Once we set a date, all things are a go! Our colors are champagne & orange with "a touch of chocolate" (FI's choice).  Our bridal party is picked as well as BM dresses. I have been playing with ideas for our OOT's, STDS and invitations. Guestbooks are figured.  I am excited to do most of this myself (with some help) as I am a crafty person who makes everything!  I even plan to hand pour the floating candles and etch the glasses for centerpieces.  I am excited for everything, mainly marrying my knight!

You sound like me! I also have been planning this day long before I got the ring (guilty!). But now that I can (officially) start planning, and I have so much time...I'm enjoying every bit of it because I'm not rushed, I can shop around for the best deals, and its totally stress-free! As much as I would love to get married sooner...I'm truly savouring the planning process, making it enjoyable, and feeling 100% happy with my decisions.

Happy planning!

Can you let me know what you think of Paradisus? I'm looking into Paradisus Punta Cana or Paradisus Palma Real in Punta Cana. Thanks :) And my friend gets married at Hard Rock next month! I'll let you know what they thought of it too!!

I'm definitely not pacing myself! At first I thought people would judge me for starting to plan so far in advance...but then I considered how stressed/overwhelmed brides can be when they are in a time crunch with planning...and I don't ever want to feel that way with planning my big day! I want to look back and feel like I enjoyed every minute of it and that I made no rushed decisions. Keeping that in mind, with DW its a good idea to get your venue booked and a wedding date secured as soon as possible so you can inform your guests who will need to book their vacation days well in advance! Whereas, at home weddings don't require such advanced planning in that regard.

In the end it won't matter how quickly or slowly you meet your deadlines, what will matter is whether or not you enjoyed it...however long the planning lasted!

Hi Ursula,

I've just started the destination wedding planning process and Mexico seems to be the best bet for both us & our guests.  We've started doing alot of research on our own and then contacted destinationweddings.com. We have some special requirements (handicap accessible, children, BIG foodies) so it has helped alot but having someone on your side to give feedback and keep the resorts responding quickly. '

We are in the final stretch of making the location decision but Cancun & Playa del Carmen are the two areas we have settled on. From everyone I've spoken to about d.w's, Mexico is the go to place and has gotten the "all-inclusive" resort down to a science. Not sure if this helps or not, but don't give up on Mexico!

Ah we still have not picked a country, never mind a location. I don't even know where to start. confused.gif

I am definitely NOT passing myself.. I like having lots of time, but I don't want anything to be last minute so I'm doing whatever I feel like now! I have my dress, the bridesmaid dresses and the material purchased to make our Save the Dates. Which I can't continue with until we find out where we'll be having it!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
