I'd absolutely die if this happened. I'll have to stalk the internet about all this lol.

I've never had a problem with that happening traveling to DR. Then again, I don't exactly itemize what I have with me on the customs forms. I'm not there to sell anything so for me, it has no value.

In lieu of doing traditional favors, I am doing OOT bags. I figure my guests will appreciate something useful instead of a random knick-knack. So it's basically about just trying to figure out what would be appropriate to add to each bag...yet not break the bank.

I wasn't sure if they would think it was rude if we only did the OOT bag, but you have a good point! And would of course be so much easier. I came across a few good websites for stuff:

Well, if you want something a bit "knick-knack" then you could do customized coffee mugs. But, you wouldn't really give that out at the wedding...I think another important thing to remember is that your guests will have to fly back home so you don't want to give them to many unnecessary items. You know all the women will have their bags stuffed to the brim as it is. lol

Here are my thoughts so far:

  • Give my guests OOT bags in order to make their vacation more enjoyable. Put a card in their telling them that it is a thank you welcome bag (have to figure out better wording. feedback.gif)
  • In lieu of having wedding cake, since dessert comes with dinner, my FH and I have discussed buying mini Tortuga rum cakes in Grand Cayman (our wedding location), putting them in clear bag gift bags (think of the non-shrink wrapper clear plastic around gift basket..that's what I want to use) then tie it with a ribbon and a note.

The note will say something like "Take this Tortuga Rum Cake home in order to remember our special day. When you eat it, we hope that you will be filled with love and happiness you  experienced during this vacation." Something like that...idk I still have enough time for that.

Maybe you could do something like the rum cakes if your group is small enough? Or you could give out something else from DR that was symbolic to your guests or native to the island? If your group like to alcohol, then maybe you could do mini bottles.

Thanks for the link. I will have to go check those out! :)

Great idea with the rum cake, will totally have to check that out! I saw welcome notes on Etsy that I was thinking of buying, they can word it better than me probably LOL. I was thinking of these drink favors, a plastic cup, liquor, sun screen, and chap stick as mini things for the welcome bag. Still not decided, at least I have some time! I can't really order that stuff until I get a def. number of guests anyways (waiting SUCKS!!!)

When you say plastic cup, it makes me think of the Solo cup. Is that what you're talking about?

As far as the sunscreen goes, I've heard people say that most people will bring that. But, most people won't bring the aloe. So that's what I'm planning on putting in mine. You can find aloe at the Dollar Tree. If you even up finding out that you have a lot of people, then you could always go to Walmart and get a big bottle of aloe. Dollar Tree has the clear travel size bottles that you could put the aloe in. Then stick a wedding related label on it! cool.gif

I know that you mean by waiting! I feel like people think they have all the time in the world to get back to us! Where are common sense and courtesy when you need them? confused.gif

Not solo cups LOL, the think one's that they have handles or the reuseable one's with the straw. Aloe is good thinking! I'm sending my save the dates out in July, I already ordered them but they take 6 weeks to come in uuuugh! And than I'm going to send out the formal invites in Nov I think. We have to have the guest list sent to the WC by 3/16/14. So I'm going to put the deadline before that obviously, but I think we'll have an idea before than. So far the list is at 31 guests! Shall see what the final number is

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
