Any other 2014 brides here getting an early start?

Hey RaynDrop - I'm having a small wedding but never really cared to have bridesmaids. We have just 22 on the guests including immediate family and 6 friends each) I didn't want to choose among my friends (because then that would be the whole guest list! lol) and when I mentioned to my sisters "if I did have bridesmaids, it would be you 2", they kind of made a face like "really?? why us?" We get along but aren't that close. I think they expected me to pick my friends over them.

It's weird because they are super excited about the wedding and will come with me to look at dresses and they've talked about organizing a bridal shower/bachelorette party so it's almost like they are unofficial bridesmaids ...

My FI thought it was weird I didn't want a bridal party bc he wants (or thinks he should have a best man) I told him I'm totally fine with him having groomsmen if he wants - we don't have to be even. My friend got married with 10 groomsmen and only 4 bridesmaids!

No wedding party.... are you doing something small or inviting a lot of people?

I'm still toying with planning something and paying for everyone or just telling them we are doing it .. join us if you can.... I think paying for all is really nice.. but I don't want anyone to feel forced to do something they would rather not.

Wine Tasting! I vote YES - Last time I did this we ended up going to 8 Vineyards in one day - Soooo fun!

hmm, I bet one of them is taking the lead - there's 3 of us too and I always let my eldest sister handle everything when it comes to family/organizational stuff. But I'm sure it's annoying from your end!

This is like the last thing on my list! I haven't been yet and have no idea when I will plan to go look. I did do some online window shopping a few months ago.. I actually found a dress I LOVE - I'm tempted to buy it but I know I need to try on some different styles to see what actually looks good on me.

I hope to find one that is a similar cute as the online one I like so I can get an idea if I will actually like it in person.

How about you all?

I've done a lot of online browsing so I know what style I like (fit and flare/trumpet) but who knows if it will actually look good on me. I've also researched a bunch of stores in NYC to check out - tempted to go to Kleinfeld's just to try on but there's no way I could afford their dresses!

I know the resort has different options for the ceremony - ie beach- garden - gazebo and you don't actually pick the location until you get there so that you can see all the spaces before you decide.

Sooo as much as I assumed the beach was the only way to go.. what if I fall in love with the garden or something?!? confused.gif

Assuming it is on the beach I will do barefoot sandals and then have a pair of wedges for the reception and dancing. Plus, I figure if I end up picking a none sand location I will just wear the wedges.

How about you???

ohh I agree! I also am assuming beach only even though I've seen pics of gazebos and piers. No garden for me, I can't stand the way grass feels on my feet (I know I'm weird lol) It creeps me out bc I feel I'm standing on bugs, ants and dog poop!

I'll probably go with flat sparkly sandals although tempted to go barefoot - I'm OK with sand on my feet! lol

You have PLENTY of time to find a dress but just make sure you start shopping at least 9 months before your wedding.  I just barely made the cutoff for not needing to do a rush order because I had 8 months to the day. The designer I chose has a 6 month turn around time and the boutique likes 2 months for alterations (since you live near me you should totally check them out they have a great selection-Bella Sera Bridal in Danvers). Luckily my dress is coming in faster than they thought so I'll have plenty of time for alterations!

I had picked out a dress online that I loved but when I put it on it just wasn't me or what I was going for. I actually ended up buying the very first dress I tried on (after trying on a ton of others) and I'm still so in love with it.  I look at pictures and just can't wait to wear it  love.gif

yikes! we're 10 months away from our date. I better start hitting those stores to try on!

Congratulations happywife! I will be an April 2014 bride (need to change my signature) in Rivera Maya.  I really like my wedding planner that I've been working with thus far, Joyce Mnguni of Dream Weddings. She posts on BDW and is very helpful.  You also definitely want to find a good travel agent who also has knowledge of boutique hotels with the feel and price range that you are looking for.  I hope this helps!

P.S. If you give us some idea of what you want each guest to pay (e.g. no more than $1500 per person), that might help generate some ideas.  This board really is incredibly helpful.

Hey brownsugarbride!

Could I get more information on your wedding planner. I'm planning a wedding in Cancun and I am really considering a wedding planner! Thanks so much!

I do too but if it does that's okay. I don't think she really wants to be in the wedding (or even come). She has only flown once, has never been out of the country and has told us a few times that she essentially doesn't understand why we're getting married in MX and it's selfish.  Oh well, you can't please everyone!
O wow really she must have been talking to my sisters who feel the same.true only need to please you and FH..

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
