Although I mentioned it to DBF the other day that I want to start contacting resorts and planning stuff but I don't want to do it without being engaged...and he said soon enough! hehe.

to Jennk87: I'm all for a legal ceremony if you need it to be on his insurance to help you save money! I agree that it does pose a problem that you have to keep it a secret from your family (if you choose) and which one to celebrate. On the other hand, it'll be nice to have a secret day to celebrate for just the two of you, and also celebrate the day of the symbolic ceremony! Is there any way you can arrange it so that they are on the same day of the month at least? That way they each are connected!

haha yeah... our convo when like this ... we were at a dinner table with my family... my dad made another comment about us getting married someday ... everyone gets up from the table.. my boyfriend looks at me and says "do you wanna get married" I turned rapidly toward him and replied "okay how drunk ARE you right now!??"  He said "no I'm serious.. it only makes sense and I think we should"     I told him we would talk about it later...and did and clearly we decided to go ahead with it... and like I said as soon as I decided (pretty much right away) that we would do a DW we decided to start planning.  We didn't tell anyone of our plans for 6 months so that we could work out some details before we laid it out for them.   and here we are almost exactly a year later and 364 days until the wedding and I am still waiting!   hahhaa its okay though.... I want him to do something special so he can take all the time he needs... well as long as it is before Christmas (that's another story)   and he knows I do not want it to happen on a holiday.. so really his time is running out but at least I know my wait is almost over! hahaha

so it worked out for me because I have had all this extra time to plan... he hasn't done much in the way of planning because we still have a year to go and things it is plenty of time... but I am glad to have had the extra time ... I'd start planning things and not tell him that you are.. but that way as soon as you get the go ahead you are already on top of it!

It seems to me with the little research and threads that I have read it would be ALOT cheaper. I would worry what day we should celebrate our actual anniversay on? If we decide to do it this way (which I'm leaning torwards the more I read) I would do the legal part HUSH HUSH, where only the FI and I were there. No one needs to know the ceremony on the beach is "pretend"! :mswink:  What is everyone elses thoughts?

If you were having your wedding in PR or a US virgin island I think you wouldn't have to worry about the legal stuff as much.  Anyway, we wanted to do a legal one in the beginning but was put off by the amount of paperwork and translation needed for the DW, so we decided to sign our papers to make it legal in the US before going to the DR.  We won't have the whole vows, ring exchange, the real wedding stuff until we get to the DR, so really we'll just sign papers but still feel our wedding is when we do it in May.  Maybe do the paperwork exactly a month to reduce the confusion. LOL.  I've read stories of people not getting or losing their marriage licenses in transit bc they mail it to you, so things like that scare me.  Hence the symbolic ceremony for us

Hello all you 2014 brides! After many of you getting such a great head start on planning, your big days are finally coming up! How exciting! This post is for any brides getting married in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico...

I'm a newlywed from Vancouver, Canada that lives down here in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I have quite a few decor items leftover from our wedding in May, mostly in a rustic vintage style. I've decided to rent things out to brides that don't want to lug things like vases & mason jars down here to Mexico, and have priced things quite fairly compared to the resorts' prices. I have a lots of different types of bottles, mason jars, vases and lanterns, as well as a variety of other items like wooden signs & frames, table runners, rustic birdcages, string lighting and even a portable sound system.

If you want a Style Me Pretty or Ruffled type of wedding in Mexico without a huge price tag, I'm your gal! I'm also always interested in buying items that brides bring down and would like to sell after their weddings.

If you'd like to see some photos and a price list, please send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you all the info. Also if anyone has any questions about the area, ask away! I've lived in Playa Del Carmen for two years and know the area quite well. Happy planning ladies!

Here's a couple of photos of some items we used in our wedding and that are for rent:

Hello ladies I'm Yvonne and from the London in the UK. We're getting married on the 20th May 2014 too at the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton and I can't wait. We got engaged just after midnight at New Years and decided on Jamaica in March, so I've not been planning for long as some of you. I've got a few bits but still feel I have sooooo much to do in such little time!! I've got my dress, bridesmaid dresses, shoes incase it's raining & can't get married on the beach, most of the stuff for the OOT bags, invites for Jamaica & AHR and think that's it.......loads more to do feeling stressed now 😕

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
