Engagement Party: No (I also refused to do engagement photos, I know they're really popular right now but they aren't my thing and my fiance was fine with that) Shower: I've told everyone I didn't want/need one but I know they will throw me one anyway.  My mother, sister and bridesmaids have already been talking about it, I just hope it's something simple. I know my mom wants to invite family friends and stuff but I feel awkward because they aren't invited to the wedding. Bachelorette: Yes, that and dress shopping were two of the things I was most looking forward too.  I'm doing mine a little earlier than normal (Oct for a Feb wedding) because I didn't want to schlep around in the snow and be outside in the freezing cold. We're doing dinner at nice restaurant, an improv comedy show that caters to bachelorettes then getting drinks after. I have a rather large wedding party for a destination wedding and they're really into planning stuff so I guess I'm lucky there!
We didn't do engagement pics either. I did want to. Yes you are lucky to have a willing helping party..how many are in your party?

Well, I just got my date (about to sign my contract) so I haven't scheduled that just yet! LOL My godmother is throwing me the shower back at home.  Do you think it would be wrong to have more than one shower?
YAY! !! CONGRATS what date? Glad all worked out for you. I think it should be ok. Two different guest list right? One thrown by your aunt back home and where is the other?

6-4 are my friends and 2 from his side. I think he would've had more groomsmen if I let him, but 6 is already a bigger bridal party than I had intended

Yes he's got 6 and I've got 6. I always wanted a small bridal party 3-4 and thought with a DW that would work well, he had other thoughts. It's okay though I have my sister (my only sibling), 3 closest friends and added on his family.

I am planning to make these for my bridal shower. On a related note, I went to a birthday tea this weekend and loved it! It was a real English high tea, complete with scones and clotted cream. The birthday girl requested that we all wear hats, so of course I went to a local vintage shop and bought a lovely fascination, gloves, and purse...and maybe a spare hat and purse that may or may not be appropriate for my own upcoming shower. :D;) I have put my girlfriends on notice that there will be hats at my bridal shower! http://photos.essence.com/galleries/niecy-nashs-bridal-shower/
OooooOOhhhh I LOVE big hat events! My friends do Big Hat Girls Day Out every now and then! We will pick some cute little town with a few attractions we'd like to see. Put on a sundress and big hat and go to lunch or something. Its soo fun!! People either look at us like we are crazy or think we are just too cute. So fun and a great idea for a shower!!
Are all of you ladies having or have had bridal shower, bachelorette, engagement, etc? If so when and details?[/quote No to the engagement party.. not sure what the point would be.. plus the only people that know we are getting married at this point are the ones invited... Shower.. umm well if anyone thinks to have one for me :D bachelorette Hmmm if so probably something like plz101 .. maybe end up dancing at some point.. we don't do that often anymore so its fun to go out every great now and then... Umm last time we went to a club the kids in line behind us were talking about this women they knew that was a cougar ... we were older then her HAHAH but when they start playing that 80s music we LOVE it hahahha
is it standard to organize an outing and pay for guests? I'm not having a wedding party either ... a catamaran cruise sounds fun
Umm I don't know if it is standard - but it seems to be a good and popular way to get all your guest together for some fun bonding. I guess this would depend on your guest list. No wedding party.... are you doing something small or inviting a lot of people? I'm still toying with planning something and paying for everyone or just telling them we are doing it .. join us if you can.... I think paying for all is really nice.. but I don't want anyone to feel forced to do something they would rather not.
no engagement party. and i'm pretty sure my sisters and friends will throw a bridal shower and bachelorette party. The bachelorette party will be more like a spa day or wine tasting at a vineyard as opposed to going out clubbing though ...
Wine Tasting! I vote YES - Last time I did this we ended up going to 8 Vineyards in one day - Soooo fun!
Girls....cake server sets? Do they really matter?
Hadn't given it a thought.... The only wedding gift I want (not that I would ask for it) is the Swarovski Champagne Flutes ... I think the only way I would do a cake server set is if I got the matching one to those glasses. teehee

I know most people don't have access to the prices on Canal Street in NYC, but if you can get to craft fairs and festivals, most of the vendors there should have pashminas for around $5 each. Also, some dollar stores that sell clothing have them for that price. I've got about 20 that I've bought for myself over the last 2 years and I didn't pay over $7 for any of them. :-)
Now that you mention it Becka -- I often go to flee markets and they always have them there for $5 each or deals like 5 for $20.

I am going to have to pick those up for all the girls, what a great idea! I know I always bring one with me when I travel but most people don't think about it.  I won't be buying any body wash though, I'm not as nice as you. I figure between what people bring and what the resort gives them they'll be okay, I do really like the idea though, it'll be very cute together.  I went there a few weeks ago though and they have a really nice new Caribbean scent that might work really well!
Yeah I was there not that long ago and they had ones like Bali And Aruba ... I was thinking I'd wait til next year to see if by any chance they come out with a St. Lucia flavor... long shot I know HAHah There was a loofah in the bathroom at the last hotel I stayed at (first time ever) and I was so excited. For .20 each you really can't go wrong!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
