So I kind of cheated on my dress…. Opinions Please

Recommended Posts

So I love my dress. I found it online, printed it out, and hunted it down to try it on. I fell in love instantly; itâ€s me in every way.  The retail price of this dress was over my budget, but I scored and found a pristine sample that came in under budget.  The only potential set back is that the dress is very form fitting and I donâ€t anticipate being very comfortable in it. Now I knew this all along but was willing to sacrifice comfort for a few hours (yes I love the dress that much). Secondly, Iâ€m 5â€10†and this dress only permits me to wear shoe that donâ€t exceed 1â€. I love heels and itâ€s been very difficult to find a shoe that I like adnwill work with this dress because of the heel restriction.

In the interim, I have a friend who happened to buy one of my top 5 dresses. She ended up eloping in Vegas and no longer needs the dress.  My curiosity got the best of me and I tried it on again, big mistake because now Iâ€m thinking about buying it off of her and I will have two dresses.  She got a killer deal on this dress as it was ordered by another bride who canceled her wedding and she only had to pay the 50% balance. And since weâ€re friends, sheâ€ll give me a deal and reduce her asking price. Now if I switch dresses and sell my original (even if I lose a bit of $) I will still be well under my original budget. Itâ€s actually possible that when itâ€s all said and done, I might only use a little over half of my original dress budget. And the comfort factor of this dress isnâ€t an issue. I donâ€t love this dress, but I really like it and I love that I will be saving a considerable amount of money. I will have to buy some sort of sash, and I can wear shoes up to 2-3/4â€

What to do???

This is your one big day! Follow your gut! I think both dresses are beautiful! Which one can you picture your self getting married in. You dont want to have any regrets.. You said you didnt love the second one so i pick the first one! For shoes why dont you find a comfy low heel to wear and buy some sexy hot high heels to use just in pictures?

Good Luck! Let us know what you decide!

I am marrying on the 21st of May 2013, 4 years from OUR first date!  Awesome!

I say, though both dresses are beautiful, if you don't LOVE your wedding dress, you don't love it.  And I would be heartbroken to look at my pictures years after the fact, and think I should have worn something else.  I say you still have plenty of time to get a wedding gown.  Sell the one you bought that is shorter (and more uncomfortable than you wanted), and not buy your friend's.  Maybe try to find something similar to the gown you love, but longer so you can wear the shoes you want?  Just a thought.  Good Luck!!

You keep saying how much you 'Love' the first dress, and the second dress you 'don't Love' ... Nuff said no?

Both are very pretty...but I would go with the dress that I 'Love'

Also, as for the shoes... its a destination wedding!! Wear flats! (Heels..sand.. don't mix!)

Thanks for your input. To justify switching dresses and in an attempt to save money, I keep trying to convince myself that you dont have to love your wedding. And shoes should be secondary. But maybe I will get a cute pair just for pics. Thanks, and I'll keep you posted with my final decision.

Hey there, when you get a moment you should join me and other May 2013 brides: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/79118/may-2013-brides Thanks for you input. I do love the first one actually, but as the wedding progresses I just keep seeing $$$, so I saw a means to save and considered selling it for this reason. In my opinion there really isn't a dress like it, that's why I love it.

True, but I'm not getting married in in the sand. But so far the consensus says that I should keep the one I love ad I think you ladies are right. Thanks.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
